I definately think short term relationships can be a good thing. To me they sit between one night stands (bit tacky and you don't 'know' someone well) and full on are we going to grow old together type relationships (great when you're happy but usually messy if they don't work)

In a short term relationship I guess you're looking to have the initial excitement of a new relationship where you can learn and have lots of fun, then nip it in the bud before you start discussing holidays, kids names or colour schemes. It's a bit like brunch - not quite breakfast and not quite lunch, you get enough to abate your hunger but it doesn't fill you up.

Also, in my opinion, the perfect sitution to get involved in after you've come out of a more serious relationship.

I think all the young people are searching as we all are and short term gives everyone a chance to be noncommital a fling so to speak. I had guess what, i dont know, long term, no idea--i have changed it to just chatting and friends, cuz hopefully i have found someone, sorry not from here but my poker site. As we get older that short term thing is beyond us and we are now looking for the stability of long term. good luck to all.

Trace, like I said hopefully--Tony is very scared cuz this net stuff is new and we have talked hours on the phone and months on the tables but still have not met, plus living in another state does not help, so to all that is looking remember patience is a must when dealing with this internet dating. If this does not work out then my profile will change and I will still be around to put my 2 cents in, as you know me trace, hehehehehe. When i get back home i will msg you and tell you more, hahahaha love ya girlfriend.

Geeee, i play poker too but it's predominantly men and those few females that give away their sexuality (i.e. usernames like Clare123) get bombarded by a few assholes asking if she wants to meet, is she feeling horny, etc, etc. Course, i'm a perfect gentleman so keep my gob shut. Laughing

I understand what you are saying...but then i would have to ask you..do you make this clear to the person you enter this relationship with..ie you state beforehand that it will be short-term (or brunch..lol). Or is it something you decide at the start or just after entering into it..

Good point, but let me turn it around:- Would one necessarily make it clear from the outset that you wanted marriage and kids etc. That would have most people running for the hills.

If you're in any relationship and you get the vibes that the other person wants something different then that is the time to be upfront about your feelings.

Maybe instead of short term/long term it should be serious/casual... a fling is great but for me, a one night stand is a bit of a waste of time - how can you enjoy any kind of intimacy without knowing someone, even if it's just a brief encounter... I guess it's the difference between love with feeling and love without feeling... short term relationship seems like a bit of a euphemism to me...
