ok this is my thought on the matter, hes known you for all these years and prob seen you at your worse and day to day...
so you have to make a real effort, show him how hot you are, so him a different side of you, then that will keep him hooked and it should all go well.

also try and get him to dress up really nice then you can both be saying how hot the other looks, and that can then lead to the flirting

Good luck

*stops dressing*

oh, ok Confused so best not to get all done up then? Shouldn't I make it clear it's a romantic date, I mean, if I just turn up in my jeans and T-shirt as usual he won't get the idea will he?

You can probably get romantic in jeans and T shirt...you're seeing how he reacts to the situation. If he likes you in the same way, he will probably use it to get closer to you, which is the object of the exercise. You have to try to put the ball in his court, maybe flirt with him a little.

That's my worry, me turning up over-dressed, or him under-dressed Confused

I think that's where my mates come in, hinting at him that I will get getting all dressed up.

Still, dressed up for him is a clean pair of trainers Razz

As an afterthought (since you've probably already decided what you're going to wear, where you're going, and when the wedding is), does he see you as 'one of the lads' when you're out doing things as friends? What sort of things do you do when you see each other? Are you in a big group of friends, or have you spent a lot of time with him on your own?

umm yes, they all do. I think that's why none of them have asked me out, I'm not supermodel or anything, but I scrub up ok I think.

We are both part of a group of friends who hang out. I go over to his, he comes over to mine, so it's a mix really.

Yeh, I can see you scrub up nicely Smile

Listen, I don't want to be a party pooper, but in my experience when someone sees someone of the opposite love as 'one of the lads' it is more difficult to switch from being friends to something a bit more intimate.

I think a bit of subtle matchmaking from your friends is the best course of action here.

Yes, I think that the other friends are the best bet on this. Just to throw him a few subtle words to see what his reaction is without arousing too much suspicion.

Of course you can have dinner. Just get your friends to do a bit of detective work too to help things along. Smile

Of course dinner! But be home by 12, otherwise you're grounded.

I suspect they've all thought about asking you at one point but been to scared to act on it themselves. Especially those with pets. Wink

Just one thing.

If, for whatever reason, you decide not to pursue it don't in the future tell him that you were close to asking him but don't feel that way any more.
