Once I met a girl who lived in the same town..she didnt have a picture on here profile so it was a blind date....we also havent sent many messages before we met. Sod that, i'd have to be 100% sure something long term was going to develop from the meeting, although i can see that you're not looking for anything long term by the ease at which you meet someone. For me, i'd happily chat away for 6months+ before thinking about meeting up. But i'm a funny old bugger like that and most women would get too impatient. That does, of course, filter out the ones who are genuinely interested in something longer lasting than a one nighter.
Even so, i once dated a girl 50 miles away but i had to do all the running around which got annoying, particularly as she might text me when i was halfway there and say "i need time alone". I appreciated that but 30mins earlier, she couldn't wait to see me! Naturally, i gave her the big elbow and now i very much doubt i'd date anyone further than 20 miles from home.

Hm...I am looking for something long-term/serious - but I also try to meet some new people in the meantime....and I try to combine meeting new people with travelling.

I was slightly worried, before we met up as she was a bit late and her mobile phone was switched off for a while - would have been really disappointing if she hadnt turned up - as I took a flight to the UK only for the date....but in the end everything went fine and it was really a great weekend.
No risk, no fun!

Where as people using heterosexual sites seem to me (admittedly I am a complete newbie) to be much more cautious. I wonder if anyone has a view on why that might be?
The only conclusion I can come to is that in a male-male situation you have two parties that are more motivated by love, and prepared to go for it. If that was the case then logically there must be lots of guys on here who are keen to meet ladies but the girls are more reluctant.
As for me I have met a couple of girls after chatting on AOL, several years ago, both went pretty well and I didn't murder either of them.
