On my profile I don't mention using msn or any of the other IM so why do some people get a bit nasty when you tell them that you don't want to add them to your msn??........oh and if you do add them, then the next thing is if you don't want to use the web cam with them.....
At what point do you consider adding people to your MSN?
How many people do you have on your MSN or equivalent IM?

Due to the amount of scammer types out there I only add people to MSN or give them my e-mail after exchanging quite of messages through the site.

Sue if your people asking to cam are annoying then there is a option to turn off advertising that you have a webcam.

There are also a lot of people out there who just want to collect MSN contacts for some unknown reason

Thanks Chet and kingpin, that's how I feel it should be used, for friends.
It's good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like to have everyone that asks to be on my MSN.

I don't mention if I have a cam or not, but if you show yourself to be on-line to people you want to talk to, then they can see if you have a cam, then they're not satisfied with talking, and want to see you as well.

The solution is to have it unplugged and just connect it when you talk to your main friends.

I guess in some ways it does let you know what a person is like if they start being persistent about you putting on your cam, and I for one, like to decide when, or if, I'm going to let somebody see me and not be bullied into it. I've got nothing to hide it's about respect for ones choice.

I'm beginning to wonder if people just think if you're on a site like this, you must be desperate to have people on your MSN, but I have lots of friends already, it's local people in my life I'm lacking.

Anyway, back to the issue, I'm just interested if other people get 'nasty' comments about this, or anything else for that matter.

Being a bloke, there is nobody who wants to send me naked pictures Sad Laughing

I tend to add people to MSN that I want to talk to. If I don't, I don't add them and turn them down if they want to. My current contact list is 47 deep, but most of them are either never online, or I don't speak to them very often.

I've got about 12 on Yahoo as well.

I've got to the stage where if anyone mentions MSN I ignore them. It states on my profile that I'm not looking, am no longer single, so why do they still bother?!!

I have one contact in my msn thingy. My son, cuz he reckons its quicker and easier when he's sat at his computer and he wants to share a file with me or send me a link or summat, mainly cuz he doesnt bother with email. Even then he has to ring me and tell me to sign in so he can send me summat, cuz i never bother to sign in unless he wants me to.
When in the past men have PMed me "do you have msn?" my response like AnnMarie was "yes thanks" or "No, wots dat?" and they funnily enough vanished!
I've had one or two pursue the issue by telling me they'd rather communicate by msn "because its easier/more convenient" etc and i just replied Well, I dont agree. Just because some random bloke on the internet would rather communicate by msn why should i comply just cuz he says so? Internet bullying, however subtle, I give no quarter, they can sod off.

I like MSN. I like Yahoo Mess too. On the ids I use everyday I've got... Well I dunno how many on my MSN, coz my comp is now screwed up and it's not working for the moment, but about 20-30 people (later edit, coz now it's working, it's 64 people LOL... Talk about strangers Razz), of which barely 5 are regularly online, 15 on a good day/nite. Out of them all there are only 1 or 2 people I know in real life and maybe 4-5 I speak with on a regular basis.

I don't mind giving my MSN addy, because you never know where a diamond is and I for one get bored quite often and like to chat (however I'm not looking for anything right now so that's not the reason I give out my id for. However, you can never meet too many pleasant people). How silly, I know... However... Shit is everywhere. Internet and real life too. Fortunately on the Internet you do have an ignore/spam button to push. Razz So if you realize the person who added you is someone you shouldn't waste time with... There is the ignore button.

As for my YM... I have 69 friends there. PMSL =)))))))))))))))) Never realized that. Razz Out of which about 10 are close friends, other 15-20 are people I know for real and meet with quite often (though awkwardly enough we don't speak much on the mess LOL)... And the rest are people I know for real anyway. I suppose my YMess is much more friendly... Almost no strangers on it. But that's only because I quit on Yahoo and started talking to people less spreaded around the globe, mostly from the UK, who seem not to have heard of Yahoo Mess. Razz Twisted Evil

Ah Bliss I am not knocking it. My youngest lad has msn set up on my computer for when he comes up to me from cornwall, he has no internet at home and all his mates there do, so he's got about 30 pals on msn....my other son (the one who is in mine) gives his out to all and sundry via facebook/myspace and he's got around 100 i reckon, like you say anyone being a berk he just blocks.
My mum swears by the yahoo messenger, no idea if there is any difference between the two, i've got msn cuz thats what was already on my computer when i bought it. My mum uses it alot with a webcam to talk with a microphone and see my sister and her little girl in south africa and my mum's sister in australia.
Some people wouldnt be without it, for sure.
I just get a tad annoyed when men on here PM me and DEMAND i use it cuz they want me to.

Oh people in life demand all sorts of things... They don't always get them do they?

As for the MSN... For some people, including me, it's as natural as asking someone if they have the time. Razz So if anyone needs to know the time and I have a watch, I won't deny them the answer... Unless they're not behaving well to start with. Twisted Evil

I tend not to add random people either (well most of the time) and its one of the most annoying messages that you can get on here saying "msn?" or "have you got msn?". I normally reply along the same vein as Ann-marie with some cheeky response and get silence in return. If I want random people to have my e-mail address then i would post it on the net. If i wouldnt speak to them in real life that why bother wasting my time
