Last night I trawled through some really old threads and found one called ‘bored and lonely’

So I went through a few random profiles and found that quite a few people use the term ‘bored and lonely’ in their rpofile, so I started to think - if someone contacted me through the site and their profile said that the person was bored and lonely, would I bother replying?

I mean, sure I understand that people do become bored and lonely, but I was thinking if they’re that bored, are they boring too? If they’re bored, why don’t they go out and do something instead of whining that they’re bored? And if they did go out and do something, they wouldn’t be lonely either.

What makes someone ‘bored and lonely’? I feel ‘alone’ sometimes, but through choice, cos I want some personal space, but not ‘lonely’. And I just can’t imagine anyone being ‘bored’ – how can someone be bored? There are f**king millions of things to do!

So I guess the question is, would you date someone who said that they are bored and lonely, and why/why not?

People who have the internet have no excuse to be bored. To be fair, though, there's no reason to be bored at all. You only get about 70 years on the planet, bloody do something with it.
I like to put things onto a grand scale. The planet survived millions of years without you in it and will carry on doing so when you're worm fodder. As you're not here for long at least try to enjoy it and make a difference to the world around you.
Being lonely is mainly self-imposed also. There's nothing to stop you going out to meet people, be it a painting or pottery class, a pub or a salsa evening if the mood takes you. And, if you can't get out of the house then you can actually communicate online with people in multitudes or on a one-to-one basis.
So yeah, "bored and lonely" would make someone not very interesting to me.

hmmm this is a interesting question, cos i get bored easy, but i just find something to do.
but it depends on why you are bored, it could be that your bored with your life and want something to happen, but only you can make that happen.

as for being lonely, i believe that everyone feels that sometimes and like before the only person that can change that is you.

so if someone put it on their profile it wouldnt put me off, as i can understand where their coming from, but i wouldnt put it on my profile tho

Blimey! I wish I had the time to be bored!
I seem to constantly have the next 7 days booked up with stuff to do.
I suppose being busy is different with being bored though.
I guess a lot of people would like their lives to be more exciting than they are. It's up to you to take responsibilty for making your own life exciting.
8legs is totally right.
I'd also add to her list: parachute clubs, speed-dating and activity holidays. These things are very easy to organise for the bored. They have no excuse!
I recently moved to Manchester, knowing no one in the city. Joined my local badminton club, and suddenly I seem to know half of South Manchester.
Overcoming boredom and loneliness is easy.
