I don't think that's the case at all.
I think most people have a list of qualities that they'd like in a partner, and as long as someone fits the bill (and there's an attraction, of course), age preference usually gets put on the shelf.
However, having read through lots of profiles (both male and female) on both this and other dating sites, I found that men are less likely to mention a specific age range (in their profile) they would like to meet than women do. In fact, many womens profiles specifically state 'No men over (age here)' - usually in capitals, therfore emphasising the fact, and the mentioned age being between 5 - 10 younger than they are.
In the past 18 months I have had dates/girlfriends with women from 32 - 51, and age wasn't even really mentioned other to to make a mental note of birthdays

I think it might be more of a problem on the net Alice, because people set up constraints and tend to stick to the requirements when searching profiles.
I know its not a problem in real life, because when someone meets you and are attracted to you then age doesn't matter.
Probably one of the reasons why net dating doesn't always work for everyone, pictures and profiles don't always tell the full story. I go on a site where they have loads of meet ups, and its surprising the comments on the forums after the meets about peoeple, and the people that have got together after meeting at these events that probably wouldn't have done just relying on pictures and profiles.

Obviously because they have the luxury of being in the minority

That's not the real reason. They just feel younger than they really are.
(The mistake they make is trying to look younger than they really are
)

Maybe there's hope for my mum yet, eh Jeggae?
I wonder what she'd state she wanted?
More to the point, I wonder what she'd get?
(I'm thinking of a gorgeous photo of her from many moons ago.....her inbox would be inundated in a flash!).

No doubt she'll get loads of messages from curiuos 20 year old lads, so the women I know over 50 say they get anyway .
13.12.2007, 21:36 quote
Well to be honest the most pm's I get (even though my profile says I'm just here for the forums) are lads under 25.....lots of saucy up-front ones that have had me in stitches too!
Obviously the age difference thing not-being-an-issue is still going strong in 2007...at least online!

There are lots of very odd bitter people in the world with nothing better to do than worry about age gaps. All animals have some basic instincts, and humans are animals, so we have those instincts as well.
Last time I looked it was legal to have love from the age of 16 in the uk and I don’t think anyone has put a upper limit on yet
The baser instincts for a man is to find a member of the opposite love that looks fit and healthy, for the purpose of reproduction (have children) so that the species will survive, when a man get to an age where he cannot reproduce any longer, he just stops “I think it is called use it or loose it”.
A Woman has the same instincts as a man ie. To reproduce, to find a man that looks fit, healthy and strong, at a young age when their body is ready to do so, this starts from puberty, but for a woman there is a time/age limit, “Again I think it is called the change of life”.
So what has that got to do with age? Let me put it this way eating, drinking, and reproducing are instinctual behaviors. Instinctual behaviors are things we do almost automatically, without having to learn that we need to do them. However, most behavior is learned. For example, it is an instinct to eat, but eating in a “civilised “way - sitting up straight at the table, using a knife and fork, etc., is learned. I no longer need to reproduce, but because I am on a so called “civilised” planet I am told it should not be with this age group, that race or indeed that love. I think what I am trying to say is “sod the age gap if it “feels good do it” after all, with age comes the understanding of how to have good love, so why not teach someone younger there is 30 years between myself and my wife and it is not money she is after

So that probably ditches searchin' for a fitter mate.
Oh but anyway... As far as I'm concerned, women searchin for the best young powerful mate is BS (she said, munchin on a fist of ciniminis). I have lost track of the number of women who are searchin for an older mate, mabe even much older. If we were to think this in terms of mating... You'd probably say they want someone who can actually THINK, SUPPORT and PROTECT a child. But if you ask me... I'd say that there are lots of women who don't actually want children so then the art of love and the being able to "THINK", better yet to be somewhat experienced and cultured, do represent attractive qualities for an older guy.
I'm not arguing with with what you said, I'm just tryin' to understand cause it's early for me and I barely woke up.

Well i think it was early for me too, but What i am saying in short
is We each get what we need from the other regardless of age or love, and silly people with small minds should go out and get what they need to make them better, happy, and more content in there own skins
28.02.2008, 11:39 quote
we base searching for a partner on what other people think i dont care what age a woman is if she looks good has a good personality and feela the same way she could be a thousand years old age makes no difference its what you have together that is important
28.02.2008, 11:48 quote
