I hear it again and again from women - they like men who make them laugh.

What I want to know is how much laughter is a good thing? And when does more become too much of a good thing?

I can be funny. Very funny at times. But I'm also quite serious, and definitely not as funny - or not as often - as a lot of the blokes I hang out with. Also I can't turn my sense of humour on like a tap. It's there or it isn't. On some (rare-ish) days I'm flying and on others there's barely a trickle of wit.

So sisters, please tell me, how often do you like to be made to laugh? Do you go for the cheeky chappie who's always coming out with the one-liners. Would a few high-quality laughs every so often fit the bill?

Or would smiling just crack your make up

I like men who have genuine situational quick wit and not really that bothered about the guys who 'tell jokes' in fact they're usually boring to me. The main thing is that they HAVE a sense of humour and can laugh at themselves once in a while. Reading the forums you can get an idea which posters make others laugh 'cos we often say so, but it's different for each of us.

Interesting to hear that. I usually find joke-tellers dull company too. A good one now and again is fine, but I usually find relentless joke-telling serves as a poor disguise for the complete absence of a sense of humour.

It gets pretty competitive for us guys, trying to keep the laughter flowing. Am I the only one who notices who is getting the most laughs in a group situation?

I like women who make me laugh, but I don't seem to meet that many. It puts a lot of pressure on us to provide the humour.

Humour is usually best when it's bouncing around the room, anyway. I get really bored and irritated with people who hog the floor and attract all the laughter to themselves.

Maybe it's just 'cos I can't/won't do that. Not unless I'm really pissed Very Happy

I don't think of myself as funny really, tho my friends say I am 'cos I don't know it, whatever that's meant to mean?!I think it's something about the way I go about my everyday life I sometimes do or say those things that people think but don't act on, may be, who knows?

That sounds like the best kind to me. I like girls that make me laugh, nomrally by doing the wierd, abstract things. One of the most recent things to make me laugh was a girl screaming at a glow in the dark plastic skeleton on the wall of the flat. It was incredibly amusing, and she did things like that a lot, which was funny.

It doesn't matter to me whether it's in the shark-infested pool of dating or even in the real world, the answer's the same. The best humour comes from those who don't try too hard. Many people who I find genuinely amusing might be surprised to discover this...because they're not trying to be the centre of attention, they're just being themselves. Wink

That's very true verycheekyme. You really do have to have a natural and ready wit to make humour work. However, I don't think it's beyond anybody to be funny naturally.

Nooooooooo, whysoserious, why did you change the pic? You looked like Joaquin Phoenix in it. Smile

Anyway, moving on...

From my point of view (well, obviously), I like a man who's cynical/caustic, but in a good way (as in not someone who's cursing life whilst being really smart about it).

The more you make someone laugh, the better... Really... But a relationship isn't based on only that. However I think not havin a GSOH = not being able to have fun at all.

There's also a difference between making a complete fool out of yourself/acting like a jester and having a GSOH. Another difference could be spotted between making totally inappropriate jokes (although sometimes they're welcome, but it really depends on the woman and man as in whether the woman likes such jokes and how much she likes the dude lol) and being a cheeky joker.

Anyway... Again, the more you make someone laugh, the better, but I really don't think it's a MUST in a relationship to make the other laugh to death. LOL It can even transform the relationship into a friends thing instead of a sexual thing.

Also... Women have learnt that men think that if a woman laughs at several bad jokes, it means she likes them. LOL And they might be using that as a signal too...

But it's not all so complicated... Just be yourself and I'm sure you'll be fine... Truth is... When someone likes you, they like you for who you are, but, in some cases... If you want to play out of your league, then you gotta get in that league first, so it's really a question of what league you'd like to play in and how much you've been denied the entrance so far.

I'm writing too much so I'll stop now. It really ain't good.

I wish I knew what keeps making me laugh in the night as I woke up the other night in hysterics and I couldn't remember a thing as to why, so as I couldn't stop laughing, I recorded it on my phone and sent it to my son and daughter in the morning. Apparently, I was laughing in my sleep when I was staying at my son's over Christmas too.

Much better than crying in your sleep.
