There is compatibility there, right click program shortcuts and check the options, administrative rights, compatibility modes, etc. Completely different backbone to WinXP, more stable, more secure, very different to what you are used to with XP, but you can turn off all the frilly stuff and have it looking like it was XP.

It's an absolute pile of shite, just like most of MS's software in my opinion and all the stuff that sounded half decent about it a couple of years ago hasn't been included. A bit fancier graphics, the underlying implementation has thankfully been improved, but already a load of exploits about so I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I also don't like the fact that the whole of vista is now optimised to use its indexing service. This means your hard disk is constantly spinning, being checked for changes and any file calls use this indexing service to find the files quickly, not a bad idea except it probably reduces your hard disk life by a factor of god knows what.

Still, nice interface, and the fact that the interface uses the GPU to do the processing rather than lumbering the main CPU with it means it reacts a lot faster when other stuff is running means this is about the only half decent thing about i tI think.

Personally hate windows. Vista is done a flashy and good looking as the previous ones at there times. They used ideas out of linux and based certain features on it. I refuse to install even though the rest of my family use if. The security has as much holes in them and more. Guess what microsofts plan failed windows will never be perfect. I rather take the effort and struggle with learning linux than to install vista

If you going to stick with XP try the new SP3. There are alot of network problems between vista and XP. So that might solve that. otherwise just install it to plug a few holes and create more Laughing

what makes me laugh is that it's taken them 5 years to create vista, does it take 5 years to work out vista is not compatable with most programs????
