| By the way while on the subject of open source software has anyone tried using Linux instead of Windows. I have used computers with it on and it is much better, it never crashes for instance and has got far better virus protection because most viruses cannot attack the Linux system as most are written for windows. |
I only use Linux or BSD now, haven't touched windows for ages, but then again all my work can't be done for windows unless I sign a Microsoft NDA which i refuse to do at the moment. *nix is a lot more configurable than windows in the general case (if you know what you're doing) but even a bog standard install of a distribution such as ubuntu with the gnome desktop environment is dead easy to use, much more robust and secure than windows and even has all the fancy desktop tricks that Microsoft thin are so great about vista. *nic can be a bit of a pain if you come across a problem and don't know what you're doing but it is getting better every day...

IE already has tabs on it I believe, as does opera, another good open source browser alternative. Of course if IE was written correctly to specifications in the first place that would not have mad web developers write bad scripts and get into bad habits that force browsers like firefox that stick to the standards a lot closer display these pages wrongly. Another microsoft idiosyncrocy that causes others a lot of grief...

You should be able to set your default browser somehow, maybe an environment variable somewhere that will tell windows to use firefox over ie for everything, but no doubt it will be hidden away in the depths somewhere ![]()

What NIGHTWAVE said
Plus it never filled me with confidence about their products, the fact that up until about 18 months again they still ran all of their hotmail servers on Unix ![]()

Not really, the servers are generally quite well maintained and the software os good. What i mean is that it's bloody microsoft yet they were running their servers on Unix, if they wouldn't even use their own operating system on their servers that doesn't really fill others with confidence about it.
