I tested Vista at Beta stage and promised myself to stick with XP MCE for as long as I could Smile I think the only reason for me to switch to Vista (I don't regard it as an 'upgrade') would be if some of the software I use for work no longer worked under XP.

I use both IE 7 and firefox about equal, so I voted other.

I wouldn't piss on IE7 if it was on fire. Unless I could piss petrol.

I know, it sucks, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, I have to test my web sites in every conceivable browser (including IE7) to make sure they work the same in each browser and fix any bugs in the code.

I've found IE7 to be okay...not had any problems with it so far.

No, I've had no problems either, I just don't trust it to be secure enough to want to use it for 'secure surfing', e.g. logging in to my bank account and stuff.

firefox but i recently installed version 2.0 didnt like it cos it deleted all my saved passwords, it wouldnt remember my passwords either when i checked the box for that function. so switched back to version 1.5 and it still wont remember my passwords Confused rather annoying!

Switch to firefox 2.0, which you may as well do now, and then create a new profile to work with. Profiles are a bit like a user accounts on windows, each one has it's own settings, bookmarks, passwords, cookies, history etc. Firefox 2 probably went a bit funny over some setting from the profile it inherited from Firefox 1.5.

Creating a new one from scratch should work fine, although it will take a bit of time entering all your old stored passwords. Bookmarks can be saved from the screwed up profile and imported into the new one.

All about profiles is here:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

When you start using the new profile as your default, do not delete the old one until you are ready to do so. You can always go back to it to find out passwords you cannot remember and anything else that is useful.

Hope that helps.

just wanna say thanks dave i did what you said and used the link you gave, now i have a new profile with my old bookmarks and saved passwords is working a treat so cheers for the good advice mate. Very Happy

I use a variety of browsers and dont really have a main one. I like seamonkey (another firefox spinoff) and flock and would choose both over firfox anyday (Firefox is too much of a resource hog for my liking) - problem is I'm posting this using firefox.

I agree it is a faster and more stable / secure browser than IE in many respects, but then I dont use IE except to error check web documents.

Hi
New here but had to see what's in the computer Dept, I have been using Firefox for about 6 months now. Have used IE6 and 7. Never any trouble but I know the hackers go for microsoft .

I see someone builds websites for a living here and see they use CSS. Handy man to know. lol. Now if I could get the hang of that CSS I would be laughing.. I use Dreamweaver 8

Oh yes, all sorts going on here on the forums Smile I thought the Computer one was a bit neglected, so thought I'd start a few new threads, more coming soo.

Yep, I use CSS and XHTML for styling and basic coding. There are loads of resources on the net for learning CSS (not to mention useful books). Seeing as there were a few web designers and developers on this board, I thought of starting a web design related thread, but it doesn't really fit into 'Computers Hardware & Software', does it?
