Well, the Computers Hardware&Software forum is popular today Smile I always thought it was under used, so thought I'd liven it up a bit.

Firefox here. I have been using it since about v0.4, as well as using Thunderbird too. I can't remember which version I started with that, it was pretty early on as well, though.

I don't have any other browsers installed at the moment. I have just installed lynx, though, in case I find myself with a mashed install of X at any point. None geeks are allowed to not understand that last sentence, and not know what lynx is.

I sometimes install Opera and other browsers for various reasons.

IE makes baby Jesus cry. Bloody horrible 'browser'. I'm all for Firefox/Mozilla. It's (generally) more secure, has lovely add-ons and is open source so problems are fixed on an overnight basis rather than Bill Gates' monkeys finding time in between messing up their latest unfinished operating system that they've hurled recklessly onto the shop shelves.

I can't deny that IE has become better in the past year but I still wouldn't piss on it if it was on fire. Vile vile attempt at a browser.

Firefox 9/10
IE 2/10

Switch to firefox 2.0, which you may as well do now, and then create a new profile to work with. Profiles are a bit like a user accounts on windows, each one has it's own settings, bookmarks, passwords, cookies, history etc. Firefox 2 probably went a bit funny over some setting from the profile it inherited from Firefox 1.5.

Creating a new one from scratch should work fine, although it will take a bit of time entering all your old stored passwords. Bookmarks can be saved from the screwed up profile and imported into the new one.

All about profiles is here:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

When you start using the new profile as your default, do not delete the old one until you are ready to do so. You can always go back to it to find out passwords you cannot remember and anything else that is useful.

Hope that helps.

I have been known to rant on the subject, at great length, until people want to poke at me with pointy sticks and make me shut up.

I do, I like Windows that works, like XP which has only just about stabilised. Vista can go on the hate-heap until 2010 when it may vaguely work without problems,

You didn't strike me as being that optimistic, 8legs Smile

Vista might become a necessary evil for me before that time though as they start to make games that only work on Vista Sad

Must be said that I never found XP to be anywhere near as bad as 95 which I was reinstalling on an almost weekly basis at one stage so they are improving slowly. Smile
