And the other thing is, somtimes it will completely shut me out and im left with just a blue screen on my desktop, Other programs are running behind it but again it wont even let me access my toolbar or nothing so i have to do a hard reboot,

Don't use internet explorer.

Run windows update. Get every, single patch and update on the site.

And I agree we need to know your OS.

i would say your best bet is to to a repair install, incase part of your os is damaged,

if you dont know how to do this just say.

but after thats done, download and update xp pro, virus scan everything, install mozilla firefox and opera

both free internet explorers

this will likly solve your problems i will now explain my reasoning

opera and firefox, wont get all those internet attachments to there programs forced upon you by spam, and will allow u to look at much more websites than the current ie will

the new beta of ie7 is out but i dont recommend it, as it still has a few bugs, and it might not work, this happened to me a few times, but the times it has worked it was flawless, but none the less, why take an unnesscary risk

mozilla will be compatabile with most sites, and the few it is not u can just use IE, or opera

your ram should be 512 to be perfect, but 256 if your just doing wordprocessing and internet and the occasional download is fine, depedning on if you have a seperate graphic card on your laptop, will determine if you can get away with having only 128 mb or ram

but honestly thats pushing it, i still get system lag, with 2gb of ram, but i do process's i doubt many will do.

ahh yes, if your using certain processors this may also contribute to your lag.

and if you dont know what lag is its "the time your computer freezes up to catch up with the process you requested such as opening a webpage"

you can prob free some memory by doing this

click start
click control panel
double click system "switch to classic view if necessary - look to your right"
click advanced tab
at the perfomance section at the top click button
click adjust for best perfomance
then scroll down and tick box "use visual styles on windows and buttons"

this will rid you of almost all the unnecessary graphical enhancments windows puts on to make it look purdy but slow it down

the last one allows u to keep the snazzy 3d look thou, otherwise your windows will look a lot like windows 98 and be offensive to the senses
