Does anyone know how to skip windows login so I can just load windows without having to click it? I've tried google and have a few books, but cant see how, if you can, to do it.

Also how to make Windows media player my default player?

To save you reading through all that stuff, you could also try these easy steps.

To skip Windows XP login I think all you have to do is to remove your password from the account. I don’t use XP, but from memory you do it here: Control Panel/User Account, and then in the options for the account you click on the ‘Remove your password’ link – if it’s not exactly like that, it’ll be very similar.

There are lots of ways of defining which software opens which file type, but the easiest way to define WMP as a default media player is probably to right-click on a file type you want to open with WMP by default (e.g. an MP3, video file, etc), choose the ‘open with’ option, and then select WMP - if you check the ‘always open this file type with .....’ for WMP. Also, and I’m not sure exactly where it is in XP, under Control Panel/Folder Options there should be a ‘File Type’ tab, where you will see a list of all file extensions – here you can select which software opens each file type by default.

Easiest way:

Download Tweakui from here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

It's an official microsoft program, but very small so quick to download and install.
Once installed, open it up, click the + next to 'logon', click 'autologon', then check the 'logon automatically at system startup' box. Click 'Apply' and you're done!
There are stacks of other tweaks in the program which might be handy also Very Happy

Thanks chet, I think the first link did it, just had to make the AutoAdminLogon entry true in the registry.
Dont know why they dont have a check box to skip it, would be much easier. Smile

Looked at folder options and they do open with media player at the moment.

The problem with my media player is when I install a new one, that always becomes my media player, just want to find an easy way to make microsoft one my default one, so I'll try that when I install a new one.

Thanks mate.

For future reference, there is a simple way that doesn't involve downloading anything or going into the registry.

Start -> Run -> "control userpasswords2"

Select the user you want to automatically log in and then uncheck the "Users must enter a username and passwords to use this computer".

If you have a password on the account it will prompt you for it. Put it in and your computer will automatically log in with those credentials. If you put the wrong details in, well it won't Smile
