no, you can install a regular copy of xp and then manually download and install the drivers. that does the same as the restore disc, as all that is is a laptop like yours that has been fully set up in the factory and then had a ghost image of the drive taken to create the restore CD.

hi tinyuk is correct all you need is a copy of windows ( xp is best but you can use 98se or 98me if you have it ), and once installed you can use the drivers from the link i posted easy as that, dont be affraid of giving it ago as it is easy to do , all i would say is down load the drivers using another pc and put them on a cd so you can install them from that,
if your not sure i,m sure both myself and tinyuk can talk you thru it ![]()

woahhh i see good ideas and BADDDD ideas
i will simplify it as much as i can by explaining it
you have 3 options
1, get someone to give u a xp disc, and you may then install xp and download the drivers for your lappy
2, same option with windows 2000 "no longer recommended" as its no longer supported thus you may "might" gain problems later
3, buy a replacment disc
i looked up your profile, you live near me, so i can offer 2 options
1, go to the pc repair centre - a computer shop across from girdwoods next to the wishaw train station they will do a very good job for about £45
2, i will fix it, you can either meet me and my friend gemma in glasgow at dells, or girdwoods in wishaw or any bar that has a power plug, and i can help you out for free
3, buy a copy of xp pro and do it yourself
a legit copy is aprox £60 an unlegit £5 to £25 just make sure is xp pro sp2

Don't forget by installing XP and drivers manually you'll lose all the applications that came pre-installed (Possibly Powercinema, Recordnow etc..)
Another option is take it to your local PC World and if they have a set of recovery discs for it they can retattoo it and restore it for 29.99 usually

personally, buy a copy of xp pro, unlegit, you can dowload all the missing apps needed online easily
and buy when it asks for a legit key, just give the one thats on the sticker the back of a laptop
going to pcw or anywhere else to pay people more than £15 quid for such a job is insane
