Just buy any laptop you like and load linux onto it, the real question you should be asking is "Can someone recommend me a linux distribution" And judging by what you just said I guess you have never actually used linux or have just seen it, so go for ubuntu.

I've messed with a few distro's at work and I like Ubuntu and Red hat. I just want the right hardware that isnt going to fall apart and gives me the ability to use all my fav program and devices.

It depends what you want to do with it at the end of the day,

If you want something that you just want to mess around with, and dont have any prior Linux experience,Ubuntu is your best bet,its easier than most and seem to be more user interface orientated.

If you have a bit of computer experience and want a good workstation that's easy to maintain and extremely flexible in case you want to set up a server of some sort later on,or your paranoid about security and want the most secure distribution out there I would recommend Fedora 8 its truelly a great distribution and seems to have every thing a person might want to use at a later stage,be sure to get the dvd build though Wink, but then again the dvd build might be a little bit big for your EEE PC there are other builds out there that's a lot smaller Smile

Its well worth it to invest in CrossOver windows its a modified version of wine but works far better and supports allot more aps and has better"compatibility" (if you don't already know it allows you to run windows aps under linux Wink )

PS have you considered running a vlited version of windows xp on your EEE PC,battery life is great and runs very well...

For more information on Oses on your EEE PC I recommend reading http://forums.vr-zone.com/forumdisplay.php?f=210

Wow thats some great advice there, I'm no longer looking for a laptop as I have been given a Windows one from my new job however I may put together a PC from some old bits and perhaps take your advice about a Fedora based server! Very Happy

Ubuntu is as close to Windows as you'll get, so is usually a good distro to get people who are used to Windows over to linux. You can also easily set up a dual boot, that is have both windows and linux at the same time and choose which one to boot in to
