Here’s one for the typists.....
I often need to use this symbol | (not sure what it’s called).
On the keyboard I’m using now, this symbol is one of 3 on the same key. Does anyone know which key combination one should use to access the | symbol on that key (it’s the bottom right symbol of the 3).
06.05.2008, 12:56 quote
The symbol (|) has various names that refer to differing, yet sometimes related semantics: One of the more popular names is the Sheffer stroke, though often referred to as a pipe (by the Unix community) and vertical bar, verti-bar, vbar[citation needed], vertical line or divider line by others.
Broken bar (¦) is a separate character.
The typical keyboard layout used in the United Kingdom features separate keys for vertical bar and broken bar; however, typically on Windows PCs the vertical bar key produces a broken-bar symbol and vice versa. North American keyboards typically have a key bearing a broken-bar symbol, which produces a vertical bar.

Um, thanks for the info, but it doesn't help me with the key combination
e.g. if there were only 2 symbols on that key (as on my old keyboard), I'd use the Shift key with that key to get the bar symbol. But with 3 symbols on that key, when I use the Shift key with that key I get this symbol ¬ (top left of the 3). I assume I need to hold another key down at the same time as Shift to get the bar symbol, but have tried every key combination I can think of. Obviously, it's not urgent, as I am copy and pasting it | | but t'would be useful to be able to 'type' it on this silly keyboard

Thanks, nearly there!
Alt Gr + *that* key gives me ¦ (as does Ctrl + Alt + *that* key)
I still can't work out what key combination gives me a solid bar like this | (or do I have silly keyboard?)

I use shift and the key with \ on it to get it, even though | isn't on that key!

This is why I put this bit of info about different keyboards

Keyboards differ as you know so try this:
SHIFT+ALT[azerty>qwerty]
SHIFT+ same button you circled in red or
SHIFT+ button with these symbols:<>\
SHIFT+ALT[qwerty>azerty]
