Considering changing my ISP as i have had some problems over the last 2 months, and so have many others. my ISP freedom2surf was bought out by pipex a few months ago and since then its been nothing but hassle.

looking for best deal on a ADSL max connection (or anything above 4mb) with either unlimited downloads/uploads or a large cap. am looking to pay about 25 quid a month. anybody want to recommend an ISP to me so i can look into it in more detail as i am not happy with what i got at the moment.

Cheers Very Happy

And you'll have nothing but trouble with Pipex when you try to leave them too - speaking from experience (ongoing problems with them 5 months AFTER leaving them).

For ADSL, Bulldog have a good reputation, but I'm sure that others here will have other recceomendations, depending on their own experiences.

Personally, I went back to cable - as far as I'm concerned nothing beats it.

If you want reliability/stability go for AOL. Uncapped, and reliable. You dont have to use their stupid browser either, just make a normal PPPoE connection.

They have started to introduce a FUP (Fair Usage Policy), apparently, but my computer is downloading 24/7 and it hasn't efected me yet. If you encrypt your downloads (especially for torrents) it is hard for an ISP to determine what you are downloading and such, so is usually a good way to avoid any FUP in place.

Thats my suggestion anyway. I've been with AOL for ages (years) and have never once been disconnected or without internet (From problems their end, anyhow)

Hope that is helpful, bud.

I'm with darkhorse. cable is my recommendation, mainly because when there's problems you're dealing with one company that owns everything, instead of running the risk of being ping pong'd between people who own different parts of the network that connects you via
ADSL. It might not be too common, but it happens, and it is not nice if you are not skilled in arguing your way through the maze.

Been with BT for years and years going back to a time when you either had to be on the phone or on the internet (as you can imagine parents got angry). Well yea been with BT for years and not had a single problem yet although had some problems with the new router thats it though they do a Fair Usage Policy but I couldn't find out what the policy actually is so just downloaded alot and never heard anything from them so can't be that bad! Although I think they were limiting my connection sometimes during the day. Don't go with Tisacli though had problems with them this year at uni

I signed up to bethere.co.uk last week, speed is up to 24mb download, 1.3mb upload, unlimited downloads for £24 a month. My activation date is 18th September. Am looking forward to the switch over, had to get away from f2s, after being bought out by Pipex, they are now being taken over by Tiscali.

That was the final nail in the coffin for me, Tiscali are shite Laughing

Let me know how that goes scottie, I was thinking of switching from Nildram to bethere. The speeds sound good but at the moment I can only get about 6.5MB speed where I live, so i'm not sure if bethere can give me a faster speed, the upload speed increase would be nice though.

I'm now with Namesco after f2s being utterly rubbish for months on end. Not had a single drop-out since, they're a month long contract and a decent price. Not massive speeds but I can't get them here on this line so they're ideal for me.

I think you need to use it lots and lots for the first 10 days before it settles!

Speak to their technical support, they're the ones win should know, or at least know how to find out what's wrong.

since its an adsl max service i am gonna wait a week or 2 to see if it picks up. when i first signed up for max on f2s last year i had a 2 week line training period where the line had to find its optimum speed. i will wait for that and if things dont increase i will contact them. but i will check out their forum as well, to see if anything is mentioned there.

my upload speed has certainly increased though Very Happy

for those interested, Be do a 8mb broadband service, unlimited for £14 a month

it'd be wise to clarify that, and say "up to 8mb", depending on where you live. I know a few people who don't get above 2mb. If the line's set to more than it can handle then it'll cause you problems, and actually slow things down.

A first!., the ionly thread on the forums i've seen where a recommend ISP has included the one that has owone the most awards in the UK (it isn't my ISP by-the-way), Zen Internet

FYI
ADSL MAX or 24MB Upstream requires your proptey to be within 3.5km of the exchange , jst to get at leat 20mb. If you 5-10km to the exchange & you attain 6mb, then well done !
