Home >> Computers Hardware&Software >> Help removing privacy service

Hi anyone able to help me with this?
My pc has gone tits up and it seems my mcafee privacy service is the cause of it.
I need to remove it but there are fragments of it remaining which are causing conflict on my pc.
When I go to 'remove programs' its not showing there but when I log in I get the same message saying 'some components of your privacy service are missing etc etc'.
I've spoken to mcafee who sent me a link to download a removal tool for this but I cant open the page so am stuck in limbo.
Its causing no end of problems as I cant view a lot of websites, cant access outlook and cant download the latest version of itunes which means I cant transfer tunes to my ipod.
Thanks for reading.

That's OK if there's something to remove Aradon.. If it's already done a partial erase, then either a system restore as Jegga said, or a simple delve in to the C: drive to remove the folder.

not necessarily, sounds to me like its been correcupted (it happened to me y'see) or some of the file has been deleted and so it needs shifting from the registry, restore doesnt allows restore files that have been deleted anyways.

Wow thanks all for the speedy replies. I've done a system restore but that hasn't helped. I will use that link Aradon and get back to you and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again all

Unfortunately system restore only seems to do drivers I believe rather than program files, so it was only a wild shot chance. ![]()

I think I've sorted the privacy service now but...I'm still getting a box which says 'some componets of Active Shield are missing, please reinstall'.
I'm not even sure what active shield is? It wont allow me to reinstall spamkiller either so dunno if this is the same thing....?
aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh

Working from memory when I had Macafee anti virus years ago, active shield was a part of the program that was in the start up and used to shield your computer against viruses and malicious software..have a look in your start up and see if its in there.
