I got so many friends complain to me that their pc is slow, they all use Vista. I stayed away from Vista, it seems to be a bit of a red herring OS much like Windows ME was. I too shall wait and see what windows 7 turns out like. For now i am running an xplite version, only 190mb on the disc, very quick, am using just 1gb of memory.

it is strange. my old Pc had 256 mb Ram. with windows xp and never got any problems....and overcharging my PC with a game that required 512mb ram...
now, hearing that an XP lite is using 1Gb ram, is weird......

I think we are having a misunderstanding here (as per usual ). What I was saying is I have only put 1gb of ram in my pc. what i wasn't saying is that my xplite NEEDS or USES ALL of the 1gb of ram.

Most people who buy a new pc that has Vista installed and only 1gb of ram will find it a bit on the slow side if they start using several applications at once.

oh and before somebody tells me.... there's no other way of buying cables or anything to solve this problem, and I've spoken to Lexmark re-it. Shame really 'cos the printer's great, but I wouldn't buy another one as the company seems to allow it's printers to become out dated too quick.

Installing XP is easy enough, but you suddenly realise how many programs you have installed over the weeks/months/years. Also finding all the necessary drivers takes time. It's all do-able because XP is so known and loved, but it takes AGES!

Thanks for that info. I think I'll do it when I've got somebody with me to oversee what I do, 'cos I'm no 'techy'

The main problem I've come up against is that a lot of manufacturers (bearing in mind that your computer is made of bits from lots of makers) have started to give up testing and supporting XP in favour of Vista. I've had to scour dozens of forums (including Portuguese and German Rolling Eyes ) to track down answers to driver problems, but I've done it all now bar 1 RAID driver which I don't need.

If anyone wants to install XP on an Acer Aspire 5920G, then I will gladly tell you what you need to install, and save you a days work!

still, can't install XP
and the funny nasty thing:

the only "little" problem is that the product key that is on the back of the laptop, it isn't the right one...
so, brand new laptop, bought in november, and is useless little shit.....
did the recovery to the factory's settings...
using just internet explorer now....
got 3Gb Ram,2Gh processor......

My solution: Linux.

It's a free operating system based on Unix and you should be able to find a easy-to-install version by searching the internet. It can be capable of most standard PC tasks except running Windows games.

Yes,dear linux, Mac is also another solution. Or...everyone should of insisted on XP when buying their new LT or PC as XP was still available until 09 Jan '09....

....of course now vista is bieng binned and a newer version of XP is coming, and effectively is now available.Though in reality will be here for christmas.

I detest lol, but in the wake of VistaUsers;101101101...just l in lo will understand as they say.

I love suse, liked mandrake when I tried a few years back and I like ubuntu too. ATM I just have slax on my usb drive - got into trouble at the library for 'hacking' into their computer with that.

If you are desperate to use windows programs there is always wine, which is ok for some things.
