Home >> Property and Real-Estate >> When will Tesco's and Sainsbury's sell houses?

Some supermarkets such as Plus in Germany sell houses like this one:

I think sooner or later Tesco's and Sainsbury's do the same...especially after Ikea has started with that.
What do you think?

I think eventually town centres will just consist of big supermarkets that sell everything under one roof. All other shops will just be forced into city centres if it carries on this way.

I think the housing market is probably too volatile for the big supermarkets to get involved in any kind of 'estate agents' venture.
It's possible that they might be interested in selling 'flat-pack' homes, but of course you'd still need to purchase land to put it on, and go through all the planning applications, etc.
Then again we hear in the news of supermarkets owning 'land banks'....maybe these are possible sites that they could sell you the land to put your house on as well ?.....
And the biggest stores are big because they give the customers what they want - if enough people go asking for houses then the likelihood is that they'll introduce houses to the product range.

Yes, land is the main problem in the UK...but not land...there is plenty of land...it is the planning officers and the fact they have friends and relatives that work as builders.....
A land without a planning permission is maybe 5000 pounds....with one it is 100,000 pounds.......
I don't think I am the only one thinking about bribing a planing officer with 50,000 pounds
The problem is there is no transparency in the planning process...it is a like a big mafia organization as they are a lot of laws and regulations missing.
In other countries you get planning permissions without any problems unless it is a protected area...towns and villages even advertise the land as they WANT people to build and move there so they get more money by the local taxes and as it drives the economy.
All planning officers need to be sent to jail and all building companies.....then house prices would reach a normal level again and nobody would live in a dilapidated house "worth " 200,000 pounds if you can get a better and new one for 50k.

Well whaddya know......you can now go and pay a fixed fee of about £200 to one of the big supermarkets and they'll send you a 'for sale' sign to put outside your house and put all the details on their website.

I'm fairly sure there are plans in the pipeline for Tesco to start selling houses and a while back there were plans for Asda to start selling them, not overly sure what came of that though.
