Turtles are not ideal pets for children. They are not easy to care for, not great for handling, and in addition they often do harbor Salmonella bacteria which can be passed to the children who don't understand the need for careful hygiene. Many children do not have the interest or ability to provide the amount of care and cleaning that a turtle rightfully requires, so parents must realize the responsibility for care ultimately falls to them if the kids lose interest.Any devoted adult who likes to have a turtle for a pet should contact me.

Turtles and tortoises do live in their own portable custom-homes... bit like snails do. I don't know what the re-sale price of a 2nd-hand turtle/tortoise shell is, but the 'black-market' does pay a handsome sum for them apparently - so long as there aren't many machete marks in the back...!

you forgot terrapins...... anyway I agree, they're also hard to care for properly. I had a couple bought for me once and one died a few days later, the other died another year.
I do think that I shouldn't of had them, because despite trying to look after them well, I still think vitamin defficiency contributed to their deaths.
When I was a child, me and my sister found a tortoise in the wild, and he's huge now........ just don't sun bathe near him 'cos he'll aim for your big toe and bite it!!!

Don't really agree with keeping any exotic species as pets. I see too many at work not being looked after properly because the owners haven't done their research on them and just bought on a whim because they think it's a "cool" pet to have.

Yes I agree. My friend loves animals and bought 2 African Snails, but had difficulty keeping the temperature stable so she returned them to the shop. Before taking them back she found a tiny shell, smaller than a baby fingernail and thought it looked like a baby snail. It's now several inches long and has grown good and strong because she was able to provide a suitable environment for it like an incubator, if that's what it's called.
