i completely agree. Even if it means "gods, i was twat when i got that done, what the f*** was i thinking?" i really want to get something done that i might not like in later years. It would be a reminder of the person that i once was. Whether that would be a good thing or a bad thing i don't know. But it's always good to see where life has taken you. I don't have any at the minute, at i would like to get some in the future.

My Tramp Stamp. Damn proud of it! Drew it up all by myself.

Crystal, why is it a Tramp Stamp?
Could you run thro the symbolism of it?
I can see shamrocks (?) for luck, presumably.
Some butterfly-shaped 'cuffs' to link the hands to the foliage.
And hands holding a heart, surmounted by a crown.
Does the tattooist produce exactly what you gave him?
ie Is that a faithful representation of what you drew originally?

The hands, heart and crown are a claddagh. It means Love, friendship and Loyalty. The 'cuffs' are supposed to be Triquetras. He fudged them a bit to make them look a little more like cuffs. The Triquetra has some Celtic symbolism that I don't know, but it is also a Christian symbol representing the Holy Trinity. The shamrocks are indeed for luck. For me the tattoo was kind of a wish for having luck in finding God, Love, True Friendship and Loyalty.

It is referred to as a tramp stamp because of its location on the lowest part of my back. I hope that answered all of your question! It is my favorite of my tattoos and I can't even see it lol.

Thanks for that, Crystal. You've combined a lot in that one excellent design and it is a shame that you can't enjoy it! I did recognise the claddagh elements, but I just wanted to be sure, to be sure! Laughing
I have bought claddagh rings and a brooch for someone special and I'm Irish, so I figured that's what it was. It sounds as if a detour to the Emerald Isle might also be on your trip itinerary! Razz

But what about an alternative (less negative) term for it? Confused
Life arc mark, or Life-planned brand, or Fate plate?

I've only ever heard them called Tramp Stamps, Targets, Trailer Park License Plate, and Bullseye. I don't really care what it is called.

I've never felt that they have to be mutually exclusive. I'm both English and British.

That is very attractive, LV. I can see the same triquetra that Crystal mentions and the heart-shape. So it sounds like similar symbolism imbedded in the meaning. Can you run thru it?
Does the tattooist do this by eye?
Or does he/she have something that allows the image to be projected wherever it's to go?

Well here goes:

Celtic symbol - Cornwall link

Heart - The love from my Son/family who gave me this for Christmas 2 years ago

The ribbons - have their initials entwinned in there, there is an T, 2 S's, J,B,E.

It was a choice of a tattoo or hair highlights for a present, I went for this as it will never wear out, lose it, It will be with me forever, as is my love for my Son.

My tattooist draws the design on tracing paper & then transfers it onto your body, he was very thorough at getting it alined correctly, think he did it 3 times before he was happy with the position, he is a brilliant artist, nothing was too much trouble & he didnt mind spending 6 hours in total from start to finish.

Many thanks, LV. It's very popular, now, among women. With artistic designs, like yours and Crystal's, or flowers and butterflies, etc it's hardly surprising.

It's just the way some people are, and all countries have those elements that others find undesirable, it doesn't mean the country as a whole is bad.

My friend wants to get himself a tattoo kit, and asked if he can practice on me. I'm tempted, free tattoos, but the potential for disaster.
