For a big project maybe you could try doing a whole deck of cards in manga style: tarot cards or something like that?

Hi there, (just joined a few hours ago)

You have some interesting pieces there, you should definitely head on over to conceptart.org where you can get some great advice from many great/professional artists. It's where I go to get my work critiqued etc

I think you need to come outside of your safe area, you have a lot of portrait pieces, I think expand to a few full body pieces. Since you want to become an animator, perhaps create some pieces with characters with some motion, like fighting, running etc.

Also a few things you might want to try when you paint your characters. Try to use more hard brushes and blend in over soft brushes. But I think try to do a lot of anatomy studies first! even if you're going for a stylized looked, it's still very important!

Also another thing.. as you're going to be an animator, best take a look into 3d packages as well as they'll probably cover it at university I presume, for example, Maya or 3d Studio Max.

Best Regards,

J

Don't just think of the artwork. Consider coming up with an actual story (remember the old movie The Forbidden Planet? That was Shakepeare's 'The Tempest' set in space). Then, storyline it, develop your characters, arc it, storyboard it via 3 Act structure (appox 40 scenes in total), then... draw it! Nick a story idea - The Lion King - turn the character's into sado-masochists set on the moon, then you'll be well away!!!!
