Everybody wants a Spitfire! Laughing

There's a reason why the full-sized was so successful - it was unstable enough to be very manouevrable, and a model tends to inherit the the characteristics too. Not really suitable for a first attempt!

Vix, I've known several cake-makers in my wedding photography days - and their craft is just as creative as anything else!

Myriad, That's fantastic! A close friend of mine also enjoys working with silver, and she derives a huge amount of satisfaction from it too.

I've just grabbed a pic of my friends silverwork to date.

She's been making jewellery for some time, but only started to work with silver a few months ago. She's attended a number of courses since then too.

OK, so top left is a reticulated bangle, randomly set with semi-precious stones.

Top right is her latest project. A hand-beaten Christening spoon commissioned to present to a local vicar for his years of service in the community. The Welsh flag is blue enamel.

Bottom left, is the braided wire wristband that she's made for me. Cool, huh?

Bottom right, is her first project - made a couple of months after her husband died last summer. This pendant features their matching wedding rings.

tim Cool

Yes, there's a poignancy in that piece, isn't there? A good example of the creative process being cathartic on a very emotional level indeed.

They are all lovely pieces your friend has made Tim and I love the your braided wrist band especially. The wedding rings in a pendant is a clever idea and it suggests that the design could also be developed into a ying-yang style as well.

When I first took up jewellery making evening classes, it was my intention to melt down our matching wedding rings from my ended marriage but never got around to it. In fact I gave my daughter mine and she lost it pretty quick. I still have my ex s band so will make something of it one day, but maybe into something for my children.

A ring from a broken up relationship is a loaded weighty article. It carries the weight of the past with it. I would never make it into something else. As a matter of fact I wouldn' t even keep it.
Tim, I like your friend's jewellery very much

I know what you're saying but I also believe that to transmute one thing into another is to rid the item of anything negative, it will no longer be weighted, it will be new and beautiful and special because of the love that goes with it. Very Happy Very Happy

I'd like to convert my ride-on lawnmower into a hovercraft, but I can't find fans big enough at Hobbycraft to raise 0.4 tonnes. They did have enough material there though to make the skirt for it, and the brushed rust-coloured velvet looks lovely when set against the Qualcast green. I even got a free swatch of turquoise corduroy...

Omg! that brings back memories. I had a spell of my son and his friend wanting to build a hovercraft. There were a lot of strange objects appearing in the garage.........although it was a bit more realistic than the 'time machine' he'd wanted to build since he was tiny.

I know the feeling. When I was a child I used to put roller-skates on, nick the family hand-held petrol lawnmower, start it up, and let it drag me down the street and into the school grounds of a weekend. My friends would bring theirs and we'd race them. You had to angle the handles down, watch out for the raised rotors at the front, and then - just let the drum skid on the tarmac to get traction and off you go.

Can doing noxious, silent farts in bread shops - in the lunch-time queue for a pastie - be classed as a craft...

I'm not a creative person, I am not an artist. But the art of Luis Royo I liked a lot, they are very feminine and powerful at the same time.
