I’ve noticed a couple of worrying trends on the forum.

Every now and again there is a spate of new members using the forum, and I’ve noticed that single people who have been here a while (both sexes) throw themselves enthusiastically at any new faces that take their fancy, setting themselves up for a bit of emotional letdown when the recipient of this unabashed eyelash fluttering either ignores them or doesn’t reciprocate.

The other trend seems to be that within a few days of a couple appearing to ‘hook up’ on the forum (or at least the potential to hook up), there seems to be a general depressive trend amongst other members who have been single for quite some time - often resulting in a flurry of profiles being deleted, members taking a break, and new threads taking a dive into the depths of self-pity.

Hey, I’m not pointing fingers (at myself or anyone else ) , just vocalising something I noticed over the past few months. OK, you might not agree with me on this immediately, but I think if any thought was put into it, there might be quite a bit of self-reflection on the horizon.

Hmmm, wondering if there’ll be any comments…..

And if the response (by quite a few people off-forum) is anything to go by, my post has -achieved its purpose. It was not to point a finger at anyone in particular, but a general observation to get people to *think*

There are a lot of fun ‘mindless’ topics on the forum at the moment, and I wanted to make a few new ones that make people think (about themselves, about other people on the forum, and life/love in general). So, if *you* think this post is aimed at you, it has achieved a purpose – it has made you mentally evaluate your purpose and reason for being here. Whether or not anyone takes action on those thoughts is up to them. Whether people apply it to their online persona or real life, is also up to them.

Yeah, well observed, that's the way of things though generally isn't it? In the 'real' world, we make new friends, lose touch with old friends, have 'acquaintances' that drift into and out of our life etc.
I think a lot of us have found this site through a search for 'dating sites' anyway, so we shouldn't be surprised when people meet through here and then they're rarely if ever heard from again!

I am out of the loop on a number of things that go on here but if this is in anyway related to all that has happened in the last couple of days here than you might be on to something.

I have seen more people leave in the last few days than in my entire time here and i am a total Noob

Hmmm, I've had a few 19 - 25 year olds looking at mine (must have popped over by way of the Requests thread, although I have no idea what they'd want with a 50 year old, seems a bit odd.......

I had a 16yr old contact me a couple of days ago. I find that rather scary.

Maybe he's mature for his age Laughing

It's the other way around for me, I find that a lot of the time my profile is viewed by women in their late 40s and early 50s. I must look old..

As to Darkhorse's original comments... well, yeah, I am a relative newcomer to the forums and even I have noticed some of these strange trends, and have commented on them in several other threads.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but I only started coming here because I got permanently banned from another dating site's forum for upsetting one of the "clique" members on there. Without going into too much detail I dated her for a while, it fizzled out, and she turned into a lunatic bunny boiler and got me banned, just on her say-so, without the site owners even listening to my side of the story.

My point in mentioning this is that all forums that have a lot of regular users seem to be a bit like a soap opera, with people hooking up, splitting up, leaving, coming back again, and going through all these dramas, etc. It's not just the FB forum where this sort of thing occurs.

Having said that, it seems to be a lot more easy-going on here, whereas on some sites you get a certain group of members who form a clique and basically run the place, going around ganging up and trying to bully people they don't like, it doesn't seem so much like that on FB to me. At least I've never seen any ganging up and cyber-bullying so far, anyway.

I'm just saying, it could be worse. Wink
