Hi Chris, the easiest way to get rid of it is to embarrass yourself more often really you get used to it... and bbones is right: don’t waste your time bothering - go and write some lovely pms to the girls!

I must admit it's a little daunting sending the first few messages but once you get going it becomes easier. You get used to meeting people who are nice and understanding, and others who are not. But that's the same anywhere surely?

Unfortunately, if you post a lot (or too much), it might also give away a lot more about yourself than you’d like – from your intimate sexual proclivities to severe mood swings and possible mental health issues. Lord, the things you’ll read here when you’ve been here a while – you certainly wouldn’t want to date/meet some of the posters!!

Probably true, but some might not exactly be how they come across on the net

It's a lottery just like on the street.
Here though you have chance to weed out possible suspects before meeting, if you are clued up enough.

It becomes easier after sending each message. Good luck... so to speak.

Not sure its that easy. I've read so many people come back on the sites and say people they have got to know off the forums/site turned out to be totally different, and changed after a brief period of getting to know them. Mainly for the worse.

From my experience, there's a lot of front on these sites.

If they take the piss so what? everyone comes on this sort of site nowadays. I wouldn't worry about that if I was you. There was a stigma a few years ago, but not so much now.

Hi Chris, and welcome
Don't be too put off by the so-called stigma attached to online dating. My dad/family used to worry about me using online dating sites. Dad moved in with his girlfriend 2 months ago, having met her on a site that I'd recommended!!

As for how to get replies, I can only agree with the others, be yourself, use the forums, and if that doesn't work, well I'm afraid it's the nature of online dating. It's one of the biggest gripes in any dating forums.
