I'm gonna try and write this as short and simple as I can, for the subject is far too large, but it would be nice to hear your opinions on this.
So here's the thing... Even since the human being is born, all sorts of things happen to it.
The physiological needs (drinking, eating, going to the loo, etc) are the most important, on a primary basis. If you don't do them you die. It's pretty simple... So they're something you can't live without.
Afterwards... It all began with the preistorical man (or whatever). He knew he had to hunt in order for him to survive. He knew he needed to wear something warm, for him not to freeze.
And then the "try to be good to everyone, and if you hurt someone may it all be just because you didn't know you'd hurt them or the situation was of such nature that it was impossible not to." Basically... Just be bloody good as you wouldn't like to get hurt yourself.
What I'm trying to say with this topic is... How do we know where what we really need stops and what society made us think we need begins...
There are some things we discover by ourselves and some things that society has preserved right... But other than that... What do we do with the mind changing things (even bloody commercials)?
I'll get back on this, as whatever I'm on just got blurry and I got lost in my thoughts yet again. Feel free to answer till I come back.

who i really am, is a boring, miserable git... but that's not what you meant is it..
If everyone reverted back to how the 'caveman' lived, only the strong survive. it's a fact that the cave people were intelligent, they used what the land gave them without destroying it, they were strong enough to defend themselves and hunt food and clever enough to know where and when to get the food. their civilisation actually is more appealing to me than the one we live in at the moment.

If there really is to be a soul mate out there, I think your soul mates are those people who make you feel at home, wherever you are. That hearing their voices and knowing they're close to you (even if in thought) makes you feel at ease. |

I hear loads of people say things like that and frankly I don't really believe it. You as well as most people are far too used to the comforts of modern civilized society. I mean, if you want to get back to nature it would be really easy for you to do so, all you need to do is go and build a shack in the woods somewhere and live in it. I'm betting you'd be running back to civilization the first time the nights started getting bloody cold, the first time you got a sore arse from wiping it on the wrong sort of leaves, or the first time you got ill and needed medical attention.

actually moose, your wrong on that part !!
i'd bloody love to do it but having a son that lives near 300 miles away means that me selling up and going 'wild' isn't an option as i still have to provide for him, i don't think the CSA would be happy with a rabbit skin and a couple of spears made from an oak tree instead of 60 quid a week ![]()

One day I decided I didn't need all the crap society pushes onto you (and they do push it on you)...the job, flat, car, working for the cash machine life. I sold my flat and pretty much everything I owned to free myself and set out on a mini adventure.
I spent 7 months in total touring with what I suppose was the bear minimum (although I did have a laptop for my photography). I washed my clothes, dishes and myself in rivers, cooked on an open fire, read by candle light and froze my arse off most nights as I had no heating. I may have smelled and looked like a tramp, but my god I was happy. You have no idea how good it feels to escape the grip society has on you! During my time away I decided I didn't need an expensive car, 2 bedroom flat, designer clothes, a big t.v or the well paid job to finance it all and was determined to return home and change my lifestyle.
Within three days of getting home I was in town buying new clothes and trainers because I stood out from the 'crowd' (try hand washing your clothes in a river for 7 months and you'll see what I mean
). Although I'm staying with my parents at the moment I've started to look for the 2 bedroom flat and once my van is sold I'll be buying a nice car. I spoke to a friend who traveled in Africa for a few months and he told me he did exactly the same thing.
Could I live without the creature comforts?...sure! I did it for long enough and I know I could do it again. I've started to appreciate the small things more these days (running water, washing machine, central heating etc) but admit that I feel compeled to spend money on alot of crap I really don't need. Sadly Bliss, I have absolutely no explanation as to why this is, I guess I just like shiny new toys to play with
There is one thing I do hate seeing though...people getting into alot of debt because they feel they need to keep up with new gadgets/fashions etc and shops offering finance deals to absolutely anyone don't exactly help the situation. One of my mates ended up in £20,000 debt, £20,000!!, that was about how much she was earning a year at the time...pretty crazy huh.
