Home >> Anything else >> WEDDING/ENGAGEMENT RING STORIES
16.03.2008, 14:39 quote
I was just wondering if rings could talk what story would they tell.
I remember seeing people throw their engagement rings back at their partners in a heated arguement and now in the craft thread there is an item of jewellery containing a pair of wedding rings. So what happens to wedding and engagement rings when a relationship breaks down, and what about the feelings that go with it?
After my marriage broke up 13 years ago, coming across my ex s wedding ring left behind in an old ivory box, was probably the most heart wrenching moment after our relationship ended. It was at that moment that so many memories flooded back reminding me of all the dreams that we shared as a couple, would never be realised.

My parents divorced when i was a kid. My mum said she threw her wedding ring into the sea cuz it was bad luck, which i thought was sad, though i did note she sold her glitzy engagement ring!
I have kept my wedding ring. My eldest lad was our best man, aged 5, and he made such a big thing of being "the keeper of the ring" and how he "gave it to me" - I am bequeathing it to him. Doubt my younger lad will particularly want my engagement ring though!
Once talking with my mum she told me to "get rid of" my wedding ring and we had a huge row. I was so angry that she had the cheek to infer my marriage was a mistake that she didnt approve of, or something. I am still friends with my ex, and i have no regrets about marrying him - of course it is a shame things didnt work out, but we are both different people now and in lots of ways better for it.
Yes i think you are right, rings may be just a lump of metal, inanimate objects, ultimately, but they hold all sorts of memories, good and bad.
