There has been a lot of stories in local paper about underage sex. Not being a prude i lost my virginity at 15, but there seems to be a lot of pressure on children to grow up to quick. What do you think is it me just being a bit older I feel girls seem to be pressured into being little adults only having a son i don;t have personal experience I have only got a son just fanced trying to find out

i think it's up to the individual i was mature enough to lose it at 15 then made a decision to leave it for a year or so after

This isn't a UK specific issue either, it's universal. As a society, we've become so sexually open that younger people cannot be shielded from it.

It's unfortunate, and there's no cure - our freedoms and rights have developed so much, that if we tried to restrict any kind of sexual influence, 'children' would only want to do it more.

If we do nothing to reduce it, eventually it will become so commonplace that sex will no longer become taboo. When that happens, sexually transmitted diseases will become rife.

Sex (under a certain age) will become not only illegal, but probably restricted through some physical form, possibly an inhibitor - a drug - that controls hormone levels and makes males impotent until a certain duration of age has passed.

It won't be within our lifetime. We've still got the 60's generation who are recovering from the Aids epidemics following the "free love" era. It'll be when this era's children get to the point when their children are at the point of 1 in 3 infection.

And the worst bit? It's either that, or that new film "Children of Men" will become reality.

(Such a grim post, but kids having sex is a big deal)

The Aids epidemics of the 60s were slightly worse in that it was western society's problem for once. Nowadays, even though aids is still getting worse, it was an epidemic then - a suddenly occurring, uncontrollable disease. It's true that it's still uncontrollable, but safe sex has reduced it in western society.

As for the inhibitor, trust me - when the disease gets to that stage with no cure, parents will basically be given the choice "you kids don't get to have sex, or they die". Only a few will play ignorance and say their kid "never has sex". It's a strangulation cure, but it'll be the fastest way to clear the virus out of the population - to stop a disease that is transmitted sexual from spreading, you've got to either guarantee safe sex, or stop sex entirely. Most of the planet aren't that trustworthy, and it still leaves gaps for rape - although an inhibitor for convicted rapists would go down a treat too...

Castration would be the best inhibitor for a rapist.

It's not 'up to the individual' it's up to the LAW !

in the UK it's illegal to have sex under the age of 16 years

anyond that does so is commiting a serious offence.

Like all laws, sometimes you need a bit of common sense. Two 15 year old having it off, is not as serious as some old perve abusing authority and taking advantage of an underage person.

Why would anyone take notice of a set of laws that deems a 16 year old responsible enough to have sex, get married and bring up a child when that same child is not deemed resposible enough to drive til they were 17, or drink and vote til they were 18? Bringing up a child is the biggest responsibility of all.

Many girls are mature enough to cope with the responsibilities of sex at about 15, some even slightly younger, tho' this does not equate to ALL being ready. I was 17 and probably wasn't ready even then. So should we raise the age of consent to cater for people like myself? I think not!

I believe we need that law to safegurd our young people but it for many it's more 'a guideline'

We wouldnt be able to move away from our computers, if we abided by every law to the letter. Common sense [whatever that is] has to prevail.
