Betws y Coed,

i went there on my A Level Geography field weekend about 5 weeks ago and stayed in a field centre there ... had to dig about at a cliff and climb a big hill to see a glacial lake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very nice place ....

I know its off topic but the name brought it all back and had to mention it

I worked in a hotel in Betws y Coed.....had to dig around in the bar cellar and climb a big hill (can't remember her name). Funny enough, I was about the same age as FoxyHan when I went there.

I know its off topic but the name brought it all back and had to mention it Laughing

But back on topic, there are so many places in the UK & Ireland that people just no longer seem to go what with air fares to warmer climes being so affordable now. I think it's a shame that people don't spend more time looking around their own country.

yea it could be but the people who have my holiday cottage on there website say that people from nottingham book cottages through them and nottingham is only next county over, i can understand why because when you come out of a town or city into the peaks its shocking at how different and beautiful it is but also how it can be so nearby

You're quite right. My ex has a seafront cottage in St Ives (Cornwall) and people from Devon book it too. I think a lot of people are just glad to get out of the city sometimes and not have to travel too far. I walk around the countryside just behind the house where I live and often think that if I didn't live here, it would make a great holiday place!

Oh dear, I'm quoting myself, how sad is that......

Plymouth might not be the ultimate holiday destination but the beaches are only a couple of miles from where I live (not to mention the South Coast trail), and the moors are but a 20 minute drive away, can't beat it.

Hmmm, I still have this house for a while yet, maybe I should offer therapeutic weekends at chez moi? Funny enough, someone suggested that recently.

So much to see in the UK!

I love Wales, Cornwall, Cumbria, the Peaks, etc., but for me it has to be the Scottish Western Highlands.

Fabulous people, lovely light.

I love Devon and Cornwall, will be heading down that way for a week or two in the next couple of months.

As for the Scottish highlands, there's a walk called the West Highland Way that goes all the way from I think the bottom of Loch Lomond, up over the Rannoch moors, passes the end of Glen Coe and up to Fort William. Walked part of that years ago and stalled at the end of Glen Coe, that pub - the Kings Arms House I think it was called - we were camped next to was just too inviting Razz

Fort William is at the foot of Ben Nevis which has a path all the way to the summit - I passed an elderly couple on their way down tho have to say they must have been fit!

From Fort William, Mallaig is a train trip of an hour or two through the most fantastic scenery you could hope for if you like desolation and mountains

Slapton sands in Devon is at the top of my list as well, ..was going to go there last year but had to cancel at the last minute. Any other scenic places in the UK that you can recommend?
