I have tried a lot of different kinds of subject handsel. When I was getting published in my mates magazine, I was doing mainly street people portraits and live music stuff for articles. I have tried doing a bit of still life, landscape etc. Even tried infra red film with my old 35mm SLR but cant find the negatives now. I guess I like outdoor photography the best. And yes a few of those were bacofoiled, basted and roasted on a medium heat for a couple of hours
I would like to get a DSLR, the little compact i have at the moment has some good features in manual mode but only 2 aperture settings, F2.8 and F8 which is a bit limited. Maybe I will ask Father Christmas for one this year
Are you after an DSLR or compact camera? I don't think creativity should finish as soon as you have tripped the shutter, do you?

A better compact camera. You have loads of experience and a good eye. (OK, probably two! ) But it shows in your work. I'm not technical, so I need something that I can just point and press. Ideal, if it also jumped out of my pocket and shouted, 'Look! Look! Take that! Quick, before the light goes...' - that's what I need! (Know any camera that does that? ) Once I've the photo, I see nothing wrong with removing birds, animals, people, etc. Or 'tidying up' the sky! That's before messing about with the colours, etc or any artistic effects are used. What I end up with is only distantly related to the photo. As long as you tell people. (Is that really bad? ) But don't the 'purists' remove minor blemishes, crop to suit, etc? |
I don't really know how to remove stuff from a picture without it looking obvious that something was removed. If I did i might remove some of the over head cables in my Dungeness pics. Although I think it is ok to have flaws in a photo. Some guy on Flickr messaged me to tell me that a horizon on one of my pics was not straight and I should rotate it and crop it to make it straight. Did I? Did I f*ck!

Lol no! just the carry handle. Although a wireless webcam would be cool, especially in white water

I drove to Newark Priory this evening for a quick photo mission, got chased off by cows in the end, I have never been surrounded by so many of them

That's a great shot, Scottie. I think it's the best of the ones you took.
You could try messing around with the chrome effect on the very dark one (with the sun almost gone). Chrome sometimes brings up great detail that the 'ordinary' photo does not show. Those cows could be the spirits of all those dead monks - still guarding their priory. You're right to be careful tho, there have been people trampled to death recently. (Mostly where they had dogs, I think.) |
What exactly is the chrome effect when its at home? I accidentally made one of the cows jump and I knew after that it wasn't happy with me so i had to leave before I got my head caved in

One I took today when I was at Nunhead Cemetery, its an abandoned Victorian cemetery and chapel in South London.

Its home is in the Paint Shop Pro artisitic effects. And it produces an interesting and variable negative-type change to the photo. |
That is probably why i don't know what it is as I don't use Paint shop pro. In photoshop I have a filter that does infrared colours, which looks similar to what you described.
Do you live by the sea Handsel? I wish I did, all those sunsets and sunrises you could be catching

Slightly different pic today, A pic of my mates dog Arnie when we went for a walk to Box Hill in Surrey.

I think you told me that on facebook too lol
I was up at 4am to drive to Birling Gap at East Sussex. Its a gorgeous area to walk in, along the cliff tops, it was so quiet and just stunningly beautiful when the sun rose around 6.20am and all the rabbits started running back to their burrows
here is one of part of that walk
Then I went over to this little church a few miles up the road in Newhaven...
I really wanted to go in and take some photos inside but there was a service about to start so I couldn't
