I know I'm not as pure as the driven snow, but I've noticed a recent trend where peeps dont always respect others opinions and it gets a bit like the school playground's Squabble Corner. Its actually depressed me quite a bit cuz there seem to be only 2 choices here lately, Be Silly or Have A Pissing Contest.

I haven't seen any 3rd grade playground ethics as of late but I've only been here since tonight. Quite frankly I like it here you all seem nice enough. Haven't been told to marry off. And take that as a insult I'll have you know.

pfftt.....

Perhaps some opinions aren`t worth respecting, Alice. If you wish to help to give free airtime to a racist and fascist just because you fancy a nice debate, then go right ahead. I`m not that self-absorbed.

Tell me, if somebody started a thread suggesting that paedophilia should be legalised, would that be OK as long as we `debated` it in a calm and logical manner?

I've been using the forums for almost a year (happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me.....) but have stopped posting as much as I used too, mainly because of some of the issues mentioned above - i.e. threads going completely off-topic for 2 pages whilst people talk shite about what they'd like to do to each other and basically using the forum like it was MSN. I don't really see the point in making useful or constructive comments in some threads when they get lost in all the drivel.

These boards have always had a problem with going of topic. Some time ago when there were problems on the boards, it was probably partly due to resented moderation when they went of topic, plus other things. It was decided that only threads in 'anything else' could go off topic. But threads in other sections be strictly moderated. This worked for a while.

The problem with this forum is the big turnover and quality of some of the mods, and the fact that they seem to come and go.

On the new forum, if indeed there is one, 'Dating' and 'Love & Relationships' should be combined and a new section for serious threads, maybe called 'serious' Smile

I think that is an issue that no-one would come forward to debate for the 'dark' side, anyway that sort of thing is outright illegal.
Actually, it might do some good, if it dragged a couple of sickos out of the woodwork though....

As for the racist side of things, that can't be tolerated, and won't be.

I am unsure if being a fascist is illegal or against the rules here (even if socially unacceptable), another tough one to call, but I get the general impression that is the reason why it is an issue right now.
I know that here it is not the wisest place to be airing your support for such things though.....

I've refrained from posting up to now to see what everyone else has put and if you look at it from page one to here, most of the threads say pretty much the same thing..

it's not like it used to be.

Now i've only been on here for around 6 weeks or something, but in the last 2 weeks i've noticed a complete change in the general 'atmosphere' on here, although i can't pinpoint how or why it changed, it's definately happened.

Differences of opinion however, will have been here from day one - the only difference is, how people react to them. There seems to have also been alot of people lately upping sticks and leaving, which i think is a real shame as their input on a thread such as this could prove to be very usefull as to finding out what's actually going on and how it can be dealt with.

I'm not sure that i fully understand why people have made comments on 'flirting' on here, the website is called flirtbox.. BUT - perhaps there could be a specific area made purely for the flirting to happen, that way, those that don't want to continuously read it don't have to and it would also cut down on the other threads getting spammed.

Just another suggestion... but an area specific to debates could well come in handy - i like debates *SOMETIMES*. They help you get to know people, how they react to things, what they believe in or if they are just happy to follow the most popular side of the arguement.

i shall more than likely add further to this post later on once i've been for my interview.. but as usual, everything i've said is JUST MY OPINION, no offense is meant by it - it's just an observation that i felt relevant to this topic..

Wanker Razz

Obviously, I'm kidding, this is what I really want to hear right now, fair enough, it needed to be pointed out that something is wrong, but what has been missing so far is ANYONE (as far as I know) willing to come up with some actual ideas/suggestions to help fix the problems.

The reason why the flirting gets on people's nerves (IN MY OPINION Razz ), is because it leaves some people feeling alienated from the main group, as everyone who has mentioned a dislike for the flirting has actually posted in those threads themselves at one point.
Also another reason being that there is nothing more irritating than discussing something serious, and 2-3 people start drooling over each other quite randomly in between posts.......
Certain threads are bound to be prone to more flirting than others anyway, but lately it has been spreading (LIKE A DISEASE!!!! Razz ), to other parts of the forum, which is unacceptable.
Now I can't go blaming anyone, cos I'm a culprit the same as anyone else, and its hard to find a solution as it also deemed acceptable to say a flirty comment when you feel like it (in whatever thread), but I have to admit there have been some great threads lately junked up by trhe flirting stuff.

There are serious posts here, just pick one, if you can't find one, start it.
That includes your suggestion Stu, a mindless flirting thread in the fun and games section, if that is what you want then go for it!

As an example, the crushes thread (the way I see it anyway) is meant for posting a little note to someone you have feelings for. Great idea that thread, but lately it has been a chat-room, and anyone who wanted to look in there to see if they are desired or an ego 'pick me up', has to wade through so much garbage and repeated posts, it become too much effort to bother with.

I may be mod (of sorts), but you will probably have noticed that I let stuff slide that maybe shouldn't, but I personally don't care what people post about, as long as everyone is happy.

This dodgy period will pass, I'm sure and things will return to 'normal' soon.

It seems to me that there are largely 3 groups of people on here.

1. People that like joking around
2. People here for the more serious discussion
3. People that want both

Obviously there will be people that wants shades of each and to different degrees.

The thing that strikes me as a newcomer is the large amount of sections. It is no wonder that things end up in the wrong bit and discussions spill into other areas half way through. Half the time I don't know which section I'm in - but that might just be me Wink

As someone that does web development and has created numerous forums my advice would be to reduce the number of sections and clearly mark what goes. A sticky in each section will not be read by most! Also many sections go days, weeks or months without a posting - just merge them. Not only does this mean you have a busier section for similar topics but it makes it easier for those that don't want to read my inane drivel to keep clear.

You should be able to split the forum into say 4 or 5 sections:

1. Fun and games, gossip, jokes and general sillyness
2. Dating, flirting, love
3. News, serious discussion
4. Help, suggestions, advice etc

Easier to navigate, easier to moderate and easier to understand. I've done that off the top of my head and it needs a bit more thought!

People also have to understand that forums go through cycles. Like life they have their ups and downs and you have to ride through it. You get what you put in.

I administrate a few forums as I said and I know what a thankless task it is. Make it easier on yourselves and simplify the place.

Just my thoughts anyway Confused

simplifying the forum is a good idea, let's wait and see what master cheif has done with the redesign that is due to be launched at the weekend iirc ?

Meg'z, i'm a bit like that on my forum, i'm happy to let certain things slide as long as people are cheery - but as soon as the proverbial hits the fan, i wise up and get serious, which i'm sure you would do if the need arises.

I know what the problem here is really; you just can't stand the fact that someone who disagrees with you isn't being censored.

I'm not quite sure where you have got the idea that I am racist, because I am not, and never have been. Surely, whatever my political views and personal beliefs, I've as much right as anyone else to come on here and take part in the chat and discussions?

You seem to be saying that because you don't agree with what I believe in, I shouldn't be allowed to chat on the site. And you call ME a nazi. Rolling Eyes

Do you mind if i make a suggestion ?

Make a post instead - that way people can see what's already been mentioned and you won't end up with the same pm's over and over again, just make sure penalties are enforced on anyone that spams it..
