Do you think this forum has changed much since you first started using it?
Is it better or worse?

I've been on and off these boards several times over the past couple of years. Over the past 2-3 months, reading the threads has often been akin to having Roy Chubby Brown beat you around the head with a rolled up copy of Viz. As Baxter8 suggests, it's largely a reflection of the dominant personalities on the boards at any one time.

I'm not suggesting that everything would be better if we all sat around drinking Earl Grey and discussing 18th century philosophy (Although...) but the sheer volume of trivia, sex-banter and (largely unchallenged) casual racism etc. does rather depress me.

It will change though. I've noticed a few of the more thoughtful old-timers resurfacing in recent days.

I cant say its any better than when i originally joined (or any worse) .... Its always nice to see new people join.

BUT, in the ''old days'' Laughing there were a lot more topics that you could really get into and have your say about, maybe its just me but i cant be arsed with topics like ... do you like jam ?... or marmalade?

Get my drift Razz

I'll be honest here and say that you are right with that comment, and I have noticed a few people on here seem to be a bit pissed off about it.

The answer is such a simple one really, if you want serious topics, then just start some, and if you don't enjoy the silly topics then don't join in.

It is really easy to pass comment on how things have changed (and not to your liking), but YOU are in control of what is written and read in this forum too, so if you want to talk serious about anything, then just do it!

I know that you will get someone who makes a witty (or even un-funny) remark in there, but that is something that will have to be dealt with at the time by a mod (if it warrants it).

This forum belongs to all of us, not just the 'youngsters' who like to have a bit of fun, so we should all take responsibility for what is or isn't posted.

This is just plain crazy really. the only thing that would be crazier would be the people who are posting the majority of stuff on here now complaining about there being too many serious threads.........

This might sound like I am bitching, but I am not at all, I am just pointing out that you can have a mixture of types of postings without everyone getting up tight about it.

I'm new so can't comment on what went before. But I think a forum is what you make it. I've probably got a reputation on here already for being a bit of a clown and a flirt, which is fine by me. I like to have fun but am equally happy to join in more serious discussion as well, and not act the fool in the process. As long as people are respectful then I don't see a problem. join in where you like, don't where you don't and if nothing takes your fancy start a new thread and see what happens. This place has the right ingredients to be great - some great people.

Rocket science, hmmmm, the problem I think is that the funny comments do come into the serious posts at times, and can cause offence.
I am not sure how we can sort that problem out, I suppose the only thing that can be done is to make it clear that that sort of comment is not welcome.......

I'd like everyone on here to be happy with the way this forum works, I know we'll never get a perfect balance, but now that we all know that there is some sort of problem, perhaps something could be done to sort it out......

And don't go suggesting banning me, cos I'll just go joining up under a different name and be REALLY annoying.........

Personally I come in here mainly for the light banter, a bit of flirting and the friendliness. I have enough bitching at work to contend with and enough seriousness in my personal life.

I've enjoyed the ebb n flow of the forums here, you never know what's gonna come up next.

Well, I deleted my post that caused offense yesterday and replaced it with an apology. I was a right twat and didnt think before posting. Unfortunately I can't delete my words that were quoted, so everyone will always know now that I was a complete dick, but I've tried to redeem myself with an apology.

My post wasn't pointed at anyone Alice, least of all you!
If anyone is guilty of dragging something drastically off topic, it is me.
(In my defence, I can't help it and I don't mean any harm.)
