im suprised you havnt seen a doc already if its been 3 years its probably the best thing to do they can give you better advice than us. now that youve admitted it to yoursels and to your mum it can only get better from here and i hope it does good luck with it.

I wouldn't say I've been completely down for 3 years, it's been more of a growing problem which has developed over time to the point where I am now. I hate going to the doctor and dread the thought of sitting in a room telling him why I feel this way which is one of the main reasons I've avoided it. I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow and hopefully get myself sorted out...cheers for your replys guys, I really apreciate it.

P.S...Love the new photo's Katie, you look great -x-

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the way to go for depression.

Google it.

Not a bad idea maybe, I'm not fond of drugs which is why I've avoided the whole doctor thing, might speak to him about this, cheers.

The good thing about CBT is it's a very practical form on therapy. Instead of spending hours talking about how you feel and trying to understand why you feel the way you do, with CBT you just start changing the way you think right NOW so that you don't get depressed in the first place. I have a friend who is a CBT counsellor and she says that for depression and other illnesses, CBT is the best thing that's ever happened.

A bit off topic perhaps, but with all due respect Moose, a Freudian Psychoanalyst will say that Freudian Therapy is The best thing since sliced bread for depression etc.....a Reality Therapist will say Reality Therapy is the best thing since sliced bread for depression etc.....that's why they have chosen a specific field.
Also, cbt will only be effective on a person who is not a deep thinker, or highly emotional by nature.
It is an accepted given these days that CBT only works well in conjunction with anti-depressant drugs, but of course they are now saying anti-depressants only work for some people, depending on their genetic make-up.
So rather than suggest any particular option thats why I think its best if the guy goes sees his doctor for advice.

Its interesting that you say that, because when i had depression approx 4 years ago the doctor prescribed me the usual high dosage brain killers and he said to me, take a day, find somewhere quiet and write yourself a letter, explaining in detail how you feel, why you feel it and what you think you can do about it.

I wrote the letter sitting on a boat out in plymouth sound, i spent best part of 3 hours out there thinking and writing it all down. then i took the letter to the doctors with me and he told me to read it aloud ( if i felt comfortable for him to hear it) which i also did. As soon as i'd finished reading it i started feeling better - i still have the box of brain killers - unopened, because it was that day i realised that every thing that's happened, is in the past - there's nothing i can do to change that, but i can change what happens in my future.. from then on i adopted an 'i don't give a f'k attitude' which isn't the best to have, but it helps me out a shit load..

appologies for the rant, but it's something i've been through and dealt with myself so thought i'd offer up the advise and way i dealt with it at the time.

It's already a big step you have taken Pheonix by downloading your 'wishes to be yourself' on this forum, so one more big leap to go seek some professional help is what I think you have realised is needed..I wish you all the best..you already deserve a big pat on the back..good luck and big virtual hugs too..

I wish ............. tonight i could banish Phoenix`s feeling bad state and make it into happiness Make that black cloud hanging over your head into a ray of sunshine.
But the peeps are right Phoenix, hang in there, try to smile even if u dont feel like it. It will be a "put on" smile, but in the end without you actually realising it. The smile will actually feel genuine . Smile and then the world will smile with you.

I hate it when people feel crap/sad/self hatred/dissapointment - makes me feel sad, and i cant do anything to help you over here Sad (but wish i could)

Today I wish Michael Madsen and Christian Bale would make a movie together, so I can be put in a mental institution. Laughing Laughing Laughing I'm thinking something like "Harsh times" (with Bale), but with them both. It never ceases to fascinate me how both these guys made movies about nothing but themselves. Bale with "Harsh times" which is truly an ode brought to him (though it's not biographic) and Madsen with "Being Michael Madsen". Fantastic actors! LaughingLaughing

Anyway, I do apologize for continuing to rant on this subject, but I've been watching far too much lately and have no other place to express myself Razz. Will try to stop this now. Cheers for bearing with me. Embarassed
