I went on there once but found that, although it was a good place for ephemeral nonsense, it was hard to substain due to multiple discussion threads and seeing other people's chat-up lines in realtime.

Unfortunately this transient use of the chatroom makes it even more confusing.

Strictly speaking I don't think we are seeing new people there, instead we are seeing the wider pool of lurkers, who aren't brave enough to post on the forums, dabbling in the chat rooms.

some people are more likely to use a chat room then say a forums since their impatient and can't wait 24 hours for a message... Also who's to say that they (the lurkers) weren't there on the forums before it (the chat rooms) came along? forums/posts can be hid behind too you know. Words can and are a two sided sword, one slip and you can be cut too.

I generally consider seeking immediate gratification to be unwise and this can be exactly what a chat room offers.

Considered responses, that can offer an insight into someone's character, are far more useful.

However if the chat room can divert all those "I want love now because I'm fabulous" posts to there then I can see some purpose to it.

I think I will be sticking with MSN. I can choose not to speak to the perves that tend to frequent the chatrooms then.

I'm too slow for chatrooms. cant keep up

I remember the arguments on here the other chatroom [unofficial] caused. But the boards were probably a bit more busier then. Maybe with less need for the popularity vote threads.

I can't get my head around the chatroom. Every time I formulate a response to something I find that the topic of conversation as changed. Only positive for me is that it might get some of the new people posting in the forums.

I think I'm too slow for the chat rooms really, like jegs, but I do like to challenge myself a bit so persevered with it in the night.
After the initial looking, and working out how to do everything (whilst people think you're being unsociable) I managed it better once I'd got into a private chat.
I may go in there now and again as I noticed people who'd visited my profile, so it was nice to say Hi!and a bit of conversation.
