Ok out comes the soap box for a rant!

Has anyone read about the Govts plan to privatise the NHS?

Now i do believe that this is a service that we all contribute to via our NI contributions? Does this mean that we can all expect a reduction in our contributions? That i will believe if i see it happen! The NHS has been erroded away for years! We now pay for Dentistry and Opticians So the medical side is the next step?

How about road tax? that was supposed to maintain our network of potholes! sorry i mean roads!

Council tax! Lol mine is now 1/12 of my take home pay! if they go back to the Elizabethan formula of assessing it according to the view from our windows does that mean a reduction because my view is of black refuse sacks and commercial vehicles 24/7? But honestly do we get value for money for this tax!

How about the myriad of small stealth taxs that we all now take for granted? We pay higher duties than most other European countries! Sure their cost of living is cheaper! but if as Blair and Co say we are Europeans surely our prices should be commensurate with those of our European partners

RANT OVER FOR NOW

It was Tory NHS cutbacks that killed my dad in Hospital, they left him on a trolley all night dying. That was Thatcher trying to force people into private health care.

When Blair came in he promised no tax hikes, in reality he is taxing everything. even rubbish we chuck away soon apparently.

Privatisation is the legal theft of state assests.

Im not a screaming communist, but things like the NHS and public transport were designed to be avaiiable for All the citizens of Britain, not just those who can afford the services. They are doing the same thing here in Ireland, that Thatcher did to the NHS. They are screwing the public health system and pumping all the money on the private one. Most of this cash goes on consultants, builders, back handers and various other parasites, who are more concerned about maximising profit than facilitating service. I don't know the details of Britains politicians or business but id lay money that a lot of these 's have a personal stake in the private system, be it investment or greased palms.

I have no problem with business, and i can see the virtues of competition in encouraging growth and low prices, but the reason we pay taxes in the first place is to ensure that essential state services run at maximum efficency no matter what happens! If we redefine this criteria in terms of value for money, then unprofitable services such as hosptials in the middle of nowhere or in extreme rural areas will be closed down. Tough luck for the people who depend on it, i guess they should have reproduced more.

The hospital in County Monaghan in Ireland was closed down a few years ago. This means that people have to go to the neighbouring county to give birth. Although people will obviously turn a blind eye to it, The monaghan football and hurling team, won't strictly have any monaghan players in it in 20 years Very Happy Its funny, but its not at the same time

The Water company's prove that. They privatised the water board saying they'll be new money coming in to improve the system, and it will be better run. All that's happened that I can see is the money has been creamed off...but the leaks get worse, and the bills go up.

Railways the same..more crashes and unsafe lines, and more subsidise of tax payers money from the government..

From what I can see not many, if any, of the privatised industries have gone on to be better.

Don't know if thats tongue in cheek ? Confused

Income tax might be low, but the overall tax burden is high e.g every pound spent on petrol about 70% [I think] is tax. They are even putting little bugs in the wheelie bins nowadays so the can tax you on how much rubbish you throw out. Council tax [rates] is going up disproportionatly, and you get less for it.

Overall tax is high.

An interesting note!

It was a Labour Govt that created the Welfare State! Now a Labour Govt is hell bent on destroying it! This may sound like i'm being racist but it really doesn't pay to be a British resident or Tax payer anymore! Soon there will be no such thing as a state pension! welfare state or even an equitable taxation system! look at yourself you are now expected to work til your 68, if you require a nursing home you have to sell everything you have worked for to fund it! If you die at home death duties are imposed on your estate and it's a fact that this is now reaching down to the lower income brackets!

It is actually amazing how many people forget history and still vote for a so called Socialist Party who are more like the 19th century Tories than anything else!

If we live to 68...from what I can see most men are dead by their middle 60's, its women that mainly live to old age not men.

Our age group are the ones that will suffer more then any because we were the last ones to be fed this 'cradle to the grave' bullshit.

The country has been mismanaged for 40-50 years, but they keep voting for these crooks, which is puzzling Confused

You are so right there! Jeggea.

Wave a tiny bag of gold in front of a drones face and they go brain dead! Look at the way Brown always increases benefits just before an election!

Last time round was the 1st time in years i can remember the knock on door type of electioneering! the Labour guy turned up in a spanking new Jag and the Tory in a Mondeo spattered with cow shit! Both of them expounded the virtues of what their parties intended to do for the unemployed etc! i managed to keep a straight face when i suggested that the local BNP candidate spouted more economic good sense than they did!

All they have to do is get someone under 50 who looks good in a suit and talks nice, and they win. Don't worry about policies though.
