I wikipedied my surname...
******* is a surname that originated in Cornwall, England, but came to be popular in southern Wales. The name "******" originally meant "little John" or "son of John". The "kin" portion is of Dutch origin (-kijn), which then gained a certain popularity in England. Later the s was added to mean the son of a ******.
...and to think I learnt dutch, spooky.

Couldn't find mine in the list either, so I just stuck it in the search engine and got this:
The linguistic origins of the word is derived from Dravidian linguistic origin[1]. One theory is the root word is ETTI a Dravidian word that means 'look up, jump up or forward jerk and around simultaneously calling out to sell'. The obvious intention is to sell merchandise, to advertise/market loudly, to have an audience to sell their ware.
hmmmmmmm connection to merchants, but from the jerking maybe also a history of epilepsy?

The name ******** is thought to have its origins in the French forename Christian. It became very popular in Fife, Scotland where it was used as a surname. The name quickly spread all over lowland Scotland. The largest concentrations of the name are to be found in Lanarkshire. The name was spread across the world like so many other Scots names during the days of the empire, it can now be found in Australia, Canada and the United States.

OH MY GOD
I remember Mrs Knowles. A strict lady in her later years. Unless in her ninties now she has probably passed over.
Mrs Knowles was our first year infant teacher.

Although I have to say this was quite spooky:
