My job is to keep my daughter safe. Unforrunately the last on the list is pregrancy for this for kids. but that and apprently some cancers will be tje easiest for us all to avoic. it will be my job and the job of any mother/faather of a teenage boy/girl to talk about love

Isnt this a bit like getting the dentist to extract every tooth in your child's head, then let him loose in the candy store, then wondering why he has learnt nothing about too many sweeties being harmful....then when he gets his adult teeth, he does not know how to take basic care of them, cuz he's learnt since a tot to eat as many sweets as he wants?
Instead of taking away the risk of pregnancy - and thereby promoting "Casual love without worrying about responsibility" - should society not be encouraging youngsters to NOT RISK getting pregnant (unplanned, unwanted) instead?
Who is going to decide who should be 'sterilised'? I actually dont know what they mean by that as 'sterilisation' is permanent - but who is going to be given the God given right to decide FOR A YOUNG PERSON - that they will no longer run the risk of having a baby - and the basic reason from what I read in the link in this original post is to stop 'young single girls sponging off the state' - thats what it is saying in a nutshell.
Well I know several young women in that age bracket who got married, had kids and never sponged off the state at all. Including me thankyouverymuch. Hoew dare anyone decide for me whether or not I may run the risk of having a baby?
And I know several OLDER WOMEN who went Whhooooops one night stand pregnancy and ended up in a council flat on benefits.....This is aimed at the lower classes and smacks of when Hitler wanted to sterilise (permanently) all young jewish girls.......scary stuff.
Either teach the youngsters to stay chaste, or learn fast how to take responsibility for their actions.
We have long since done away with teaching our kids morals, abortion has gone through the roof, so has stds, aids, teen mums......we as a society are reaping the rewards and now the govt is just looking for a scapegoat (in the form of teen girls) to blame and 'fix'.
Yeah, scary stuff.

I think this is ridiculous...this would only lead to more love and more STDs.
In general, the reason of the problem should be investigated instead of coming up with such "solutions".
Either, this is evolution and teenagers start becoming interested in earlier, or it is due to the society and maybe the media....or the education in schools.
I wonder how many of those have love so earlier because they were really curious and how many of them are just forced to have love as everyone else tells they have had love already.
In any case, this problem is not such a big problem - at least it helps to fight the demographic problem of less children and more and more old people. Drugs are a bigger problem then love....just my 2 cents.

| Hate to say it but as the mother of a 12 year old girl I would say yes. She brings home some horrror stories. We had a birthday party for one of her friend recently and as they were chatting away one said "is your boyfriend good at kissing" and the other replied "yeah but he's crap in bed". I nearly died. They need to have a chance. |
I don't understand your point here?
How would you making the decision on your daughter's behalf that she be 'temporarily sterilised' stop her friend hopping into bed with a young lad - "They need to have a chance" -- chance at what? What you have said here makes no sense to me, sorry, no offense.

I think we are all pretty much agreed that this is a bad idea.
To be honest, i think its a typical 'bandaid' measure and it doesn't address the real problem. Education does seem to be the only way around this and it seems to be neglected to a large extent.

I know i will proably get shouted down for these comments ........ but do think it is how the said teenagers are brought up ...... what values they learn from there parents etc ......... i know there are exceptions to the rule ......... but alot of teenage mums are from lower class families, council estates etc (which is where i was brought up). Dont agree with the sterlising but some teenagers are always guna have underage love and there is nothing we can do to stop it ......... if they have a good realtionship with there parents then they should be able to go to them and talk about contraception to prevent any 'accidents'. I had my first child at 28 and that was enough of a shock ...... so god knows how these young mums feel. I also think the shock treatment of looking after a baby for a while, would really put any girl from wanting to get pregnant at an early age. So any young girls reading this, take it from me, life your life, kids are not toys and your life changes overnight ........ STD can be dealt with but kids are for life .......

No offence taken. A chance of a life without being a very young mother. Saying that a friend of mine had a kid at 13 and now has a great job and a 24 year old daughter and she's only 37. As Annmarie says STD's can be treated.

Ah yes maggie unplanned babies at any age can 'ruin' any planned future.....but stds may well be treatable, but actually chlamidia (the fastest rising problem among youngsters at the mo) can cause a lifetime of physical problems (and infertility....) and AIDS is also on the increase in the younger population.....As Costa said, yet another sticking plaster remedy, "Nanny knows best", when will they clue in to what the rest of us (at least here on this thread!) already know?
Sadly, you've only got to look at half the profiles on here - what people are looking for - and it aint happy ever after....I raised this point elsewhere but I think the general opinion is that everyone on here has to be responsible for him/herself/own actions, I worked out the ratio of unplanned pregnancies, aids, stds etc. and if what some people on here say they want and get - whatever age - then theres about 10 unplanned pregnancies/stds/new aids cases per week on flirtbox alone!

Well obviosuly there are some deseases that cant be treated, but i think it all comes from there upbringing ......... i for one, once she is old enough, will sit my daughter down, and my son, there just as much to blame, give her 'the talk' and no beating around the bush niether, tell her everything she needs to know and that she can come to me anytime, which she does already because that is how i have brought her up, so she can talk to me about anything, Good or Bad. Warn her all about those wicked men out there etc
10 unplanned pregnancies this month on FB ......... some people have been busy ......... I would hope that people are more careful than to fall pregnant all catch STD's, but some people have the 'it wont happen to me' additiude ................ if you cant be good out there guys .......... be careful .........x
23.02.2008, 16:17 quote
When my daughter is old enough, I too will be sitting her down and giving her the 'talk'.
She will be about 30 years old then, so I know she will understand.....
