Every year they have the same mix of people:- The gay guy, the angry lesbian, the token ethnic, the guy who 'comes out' live on TV, the clever one, the thick one, the quiet one and the loud one. These people are acting, they are not being themselves. They are soooo conscience of the cameras. Everyday they think up new ways to try and shock people watching and make themselves famous. They are convinced that they are amazing and have something to offer the world - it's so cringe-worthy. And they get really really thick people like that god-awful Jade girl. People like her and her family are the cancer of English society, CHAV I believe the word is. It's nothing to do with what she said to Shilpa it's just who she is, and how she was brought up, that makes her evil. It's so fake that I find it hilarious that people are so gripped by it. What you are seeing is FAKE !!!! The 'experts' behind the scenes think they pull the strings but it seems to me they have no idea about psychology at all. If you want to see "WEAK" people sitting around doing nothing but talk CRAP all day then this is the show for you. I find the idea of watching these awful people sleeping really quite strange. Why do they show us these twats asleep? Actually maybe that's better than watching them sit on a sofa and try to get reactions out of fellow housemates and the public. I was hoping and praying, hoping and praying that it would be taken off TV. But God didn't answer my prayers. Maybe there is no God????

Good point. People seem to forget what George Orwell was getting at. I'm sure he's rolling in his grave.

TV is useless. Music is much better. If BB was on the BBC I would not even pay my license. Very true though ......... 100 channels and never anything worth watching. Except The History Channel Embarassed

I WOULD BE A PERFECT CONTESTANT and I live for the day I can abuse these people and tell them 'how it is' for the whole nation to hear. Why do they never get people like me on BB?? A bit like when 'nasty nick' was doing his stuff - I would have abused the lot of them for being so dramatic and taking things out of proportion and context. Everyday I'd annoy people by holding a mirror in front of them and explain to them how fake their lives are. They get so dramatic about things. This country is quite strange sometimes - we love drama (e.g. Diana - would everyone have cried if the media wasn't so over-the-top and influential?)

well maybe you should apply, would be fun to watch! maybe see you there next year I agree most of the people are totally fake and looking for a bit of fame and fortune but it just makes it all the better because they can't keep the act up all the way through and thats when all the back stabbing bitchiness starts. Class!!

It was really funny last year- the american version was an all-star cast, so they had previous winners in there too. There was a group of two guys who completely played the whole cast, and was telling the cameras their schemes. They knew exactly how to win, and would be like "tonight, I'm going to sleep with this girl, and Mike will sleep with this girl, and that will form an alliance..." It was amazing, because every tactic worked and no one expected it- they were just seen as being goofy guys having fun. And the one guy did end up winning. It was so funny! Maybe I will watch this year...

I couldn't agree more. Reality TV is very, very staged. It doesn't detract much from the fun of it all for me though, because although its been edited to make it more interesting or shocking, people have to behave like chimps in the first place. Charlie Brooker covered the whole editing aspect quite well on his show.

The real fun is the lineup. There are always the same collection of individuals designed to kick off with one another, and BB has managed to get a progressively worse bunch with each series. After Celebrity BB I'm half expecting this series to include KKK member, an Islamic fundamentalist and a gay rights campaigner thrown into the mix. Hell, why not? It'd make good TV. Spike the water supply with a few halucinogens and some steroids and it's party time.

In a world of formulaic cop shows, countless improvement shows (whether it's lopping off bits of your anatomy, knocking a wall through, trashing a perfectly good garden or making your car look like a team of ADHD kids were let loose on it with a pallet of Airfix kits and some Christmas tree lights) and PC 'comedies', its good to see that we can reliably fall back on making a mockery of ourselves to provide good entertainment.

Long live BB, and long live the inexhaustible hordes of witless fame-seekers that sign up to it.

I watched the first BB, because apart from the lesbian nun, they were all pretty normal people.

Ever since then, its just been collections of freaks and oddballs, and C4 have tinkered with the format too much.

Well from looking at the voting so far, it's quite an obvious love it/hate it divide.
I saw the programme with Russell Brand last night, which looked back over all the series (I think 7, not the celeb ones), and it was interesting to see how much it has changed from the original.
And in that first series the housemates were much more 'natural', and BB was unique and innovative.

Why dos Russell Brand need to shock to try and be funny??? If you are not funny, then don't bother. Shock tactics hide lack of talent.

DISGUSTING .............. TRULY DISGUSTING. I hope they got them pregnant and lived a really unhappy and unconventional life. Why has sex lost it's romantic importance? God help us all.
