Far from being brain dead scriptwriter have some very good advice, you just have to beast it to the situation. I like to have a few beers myself on occasion, but it isn't the be all and end all of my social life. Though where i live makes it difficult for me to get out, i am a member of a couple of hiking groups, i've just got myself a new mountain bike and i also go to a few local events. I get to meet people at all of these places. So think about what you're interested in and john some clubs.

Heroin's making a come-back... may have to start a shoot-em-up and drop-out club!

There are a few arguments going on here.
1st of all you probably didnt mean to express your sel the way you did.The pub is a social and pretty safe meeting place for many people ,and it is used for various reasons as well, drinking being only one of them. As for drinking in excess ,well there are some schools of thought that believe alcoholism to be a disease meaning One of the difficulties in recognizing alcoholism as a disease is it just plain doesn't seem like one. It doesn't look, sound, smell and it certainly doesn't act like a disease. To make matters worse, generally it denies it exists and resists treatment.
Alcoholism has been recognized for many years by professional medical organizations as a primary, chronic, progressive and sometimes fatal disease
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence offers a detailed and complete definition of alcoholism, but probably the most simple way to describe it is "a mental obsession that causes a physical compulsion to drink."
And finally in my own opinion and as many of us have heard time and time again IT IS NOT WHAT WE DOBUT HOW WE DO IT
