Fine, I'll agree to disagree with you after one thing.

| If it's such a Not Big Deal, and no one thinks its taboo anymore, why do you suggest a person should only 'admit' it to family and friends? |
Did you see me use the word 'admit' once in that last reply? No. I said 'tell'. There is a big difference between 'admit' and 'tell'. You are twisting my words to your own ends.
Once again, I shall try to make my point as clear as I possibly can. I am NOT saying that a person should be ashamed of being in therapy. I am NOT saying that they should hide the fact. What I AM saying is to tell the people who CARE MOST. The people who will be able to support you through it. REAL PEOPLE. Not just words on a screen. Not just shared experiences from somebody you may never meet sat hundreds of miles away. But people who are there for you. Family & friends.
(And before you start, I am not saying the forums are a bad idea, I am not saying this site is a bad idea, I am not saying the internet is a bad idea. I am just saying it is not a substitute for real life.)

I'm not against it being talked about.... But what I will say is that someone could be likeing your posts/pic/personality, then you post this, they may back off as they may see you as mentally unstable. Its just my perspective of this, I really dont think i'd ''air'' my private life to that extent on here. |

| Maybe you could explain to me the difference you see between posting on here having therapy (which gives people a better understanding of who you are) and posting your favorite film/book or what you think of George Bush etc. (which also gives people a better understanding of who you are).
It obviously makes a difference to you which I am not understanding. |
Certainly. Most people do not need emotional support to sit through their favourite movie or read their favourite book, unless it moves them in a somewhat extreme way. Also, what somebody thinks of George Bush is not a health issue, while therapy is.
I am not saying it is wrong to say it. I am not debating your right to tell people about it. But I am sure, if you are going to talk about it on the internet, there are better, more supportive environments in which to do so than a dating website, which, among its features, is a topic for people who are looking for one night stands.

I didn't see anything negative in baggieboy's question, it seems he just got jumped on because he dared to ask a question though....shock! horror!

Woohoooo!!!!
To be honest BB, I was trying to open the door a bit for anyone else who was receiving therapy to be able to step forward and get a little bit of mutual support.
I think your postings may well have nipped that idea in the bud though. Isn't there an old adage that goes along the lines that sometimes, if you can't say something nice, then just maybe it's better to say nothing at all?

I deleted them all.
Baggybhoy made a statement and asked a question. I simply challenged that statement and answered the question, *from my personal perspective.*
I thought it was a good interesting debate, t'is all.
But one of the moderators felt that that constituted "jumping on" baggybhoy "Just for asking a question" even though I had suggested to him that we simply agree to disagree, so I decided it would be best to delete my posts so as not to upset anyone else who might peruse this thread.
From now on it might be best if I simply agree with everybody about everything (but of course said mod has already suggested that I am overly politically correct, so I am damned one way or tuther).
If anyone felt I was jumping on them or not valuing their point of view then I apologise for not phrasing my words better.

I'm sure Andrew wasn't saying anything to offend anyone, i aggree with what he was saying to some extent. At the end of the day on a dating site you only know someone by there picture, it's not until you actually meet them that you know the real person. Having therapy isn't a bad thing, at the end of the day most of us have had some sort of medical intervention for some sort of depression, it's just maybe something you would discuss once you met the said person. This is obviously all on the presumption your here to meet anyone, and if your only here for the forums, as i am, then yes i could see how it could help to chat about it ................ x

Thankyou Ann-Marie, that summed up what I was trying to say near-perfectly.

Right, as long as the debate was in a constructive fashion and nobody was being attacked then you are free to talk about what you wish on here. This is the anything else forum and if Timbo and RG feel this is a topic they want to share then that is their perogative and they can carry on but I do ask that it stays on topic please which is if people wish to discuss and share any therapy experiences etc.
Thanking you

Thank you ma'am!
Actually, I'm just wondering if this is an age thing? RG and I are both on the better side of 40, and maybe we're secure enough to be a little more open about ourselves than someone a decade or so younger?
No offence meant, and none taken.

Oh yes, there are tons of em out there, even SOME of the so called "normal" people are screwed up in one way or another.
Anyway, I have been in counselling 6 months and have another 6 to go... Might talk about it when its finished but for now I'm keeping stum. I just wanted to stand up and be counted as its nothing to be ashamed of (IMO)
