When i studied Physics we used to use the 1st letter of a simple phrase to remember something!

eg "RICHARD OF YORK GAVE BATTLE IN VAIN"!

Take the first letter of each word and you have all the colours of the spectrum!

I also found a similar thing was useful years later as i studied history and applied it to Forsters education act! and in my exam i actually had a question on that topic!

Yarr, i too need help with this, my immediate/short term memory is so bad its not funny.

Just noticed actually, reading I have no problem with, I can read a book and remember loads of details very far down the line. Instead if you tell me something, or if theres something i have to do, chances are ill forget it within an hour.

lol it's easy just save that dusty old place in the back of your mind for useless info Smile i manage to keep no end of stuff there, or hmm try to associate what your learning to an image etc or brain storming apparently helps. I never had a problem with it i just absorb like a sponge and it all comes back to me when i need it Smile

oooor you could jus do little tests on yourself to see how much you remember

Check out Tony Buzan - Use Your Head.

Loadsa memory techniques some simple, some advanced - absolutelly excellent!! If you practice the techniques you'll be amazed at the amount of stuff you can remeber.

Me and my mate used to go to various pubs and get people to write random lists of items in the bar and I would remeber the item and its relative position on the list. Then I'd have them add more - get a bit of betting going- {pint for example} this would attract more people - more people more bets, whey hey!!

There's an excellent technique whereby you associate consonant sounds to letters 0 - 9 . Each number can represent two or three different, closely related constant sounds; vowels are free from association.

Combine constants with vowels to make Key Image - which to associate item whatever to, making it easy to remember, as you use all your senses to make your Key Image as vivid as possible; give it context.

Work your way up from 1 - 10 with Key Images. Once you've got that then it's just a matter of building up Keys that make sense to you {when I say 'make sense' I mean are easy for you to access}.

Remember no Keys are ridiculous - the more vivid and far out the better!!!

Using Gongko Biloba extract is said to improve memory as it enhances circulation to the brain.

Also there are three different learning styles, Audio, Visual and Kinesthetic (tactile). I am Audio and Visual and pretty much remember most things I read or hear. My friend, however is Kinesthetic and she remembers by associating things with actions but can't keep anything she's read in her brain at all. I can't find a test online though but you can pretty much work out for yourself which you are by the sorts of things you remember.
