Going from forum to main site randomly logs me out

Said it before, but this forum software is gash

ratings dont seem to be working

a lot of the text is too random, some parts are large, some are small, some are italic, never heard of uniformed layout i take it.....

I've not been able to get onto the main site AT ALL since the change over. The page partly loads up, then stops so i cant log in at all.
Has anybody else got this problem? I use internet explorer, PLEEEZ dont tell me to use firefox, i have no idea what that is and i have no intention of changing the whole way i use my computer and learning a totally different thing just for one chuffing website!

I have discovered that the centering problem is only for the Mozilla, as that's what I regularly use. On the Explorer I can see my whole message and when I read it on the page it's aligned well too... However I can see it all only after I've typed more than half'a'line. And then I can't go back, to seeing the left part of the page (not of the message as I can see the full box).

Maybe this will help. Why doesn't Mozilla take the whole box?

Other than that, as other people said, on the Explorer the text is everywhere... Everytime someone posts something bigger (such as Trev's message par example), the picture goes underneath his photo and the text is everywhere. That's not the case with Mozilla, but, again, there I can't see my text aligned. LOL

First of all, as someone that builds websites, I can appreciate how much work has gone into the new design. My observations here are meant to be constructive so please don't take them the wrong way.

1. The new design is visually much improved, though I think the colours used for separation are a little too close to each other. Maybe a few shades apart will help. Depending on the screens people have it will be harder for some than others to differentiate things where shading has been used.

2. I'm afraid the navigation just doesn't work for me. I held back from mentioning this last night as I'm aware that we all hate change, but I've been plugging away since and I just don't find it intuitive. I think it is a case of design over practicality. I would like to see a simpler navigation system.

3. As others have mentioned. The site is painfully slow and many pages don't load. It took me some 15 minutes to get to a post screen with various server not responding etc notices.

4. I think in essence with all the problems noted by people it would be better to revert back to the older version of the site whilst the issues are looked into. My experience so far has been that the site is so clunky that it is verging on unuseable. People visiting for the 1st time or relatively new could easily be lost and I suppose there may even be a risk of losing the odd regular.

5. Going forward it might be useful to get a group of people from the site and use them as testers. I'm guessing the changes are implemented as a skin/template. Usually you can assign these to groups. This way the site carrys on as normal whilst a small group use the new version and give feedback to enable a launch of a site with very few issues.

I hope this helps. Overall it's a great job, I just don't think it's quite ready. If you want help testing as in point 5 I'm more than happy to help where I can.

Whenever I'm on the main site, I try and go to 'privacy settings' on 'my flirtbox' but it says page cannot be displayed.

And I don't like the 'visitors' box OR the rating thing.

Other than that..I'm slowly getting used to it.

I think Sailorman made a good point as he well expressed what I couldn't on my own.

And, as this is the last message I'm writing on this issue, I might as well express everything I don't like and everything I like now.

Likes:

I like the design, I think it's alrite. I like it that everything looks clean and there are boxes for all sorts of things (such as these boxes on the right). I like the "posts since last visit" button. It stands out.

Dislikes:

I hate it that I can't see who posted last on a subject.
Don't like it that when you see a topic it takes you the first page instead of last.
Of course don't like it that I can't see the box I'm writing in (on mozilla again, not on IE).
I simply can't understand the icons pointing that a thread has new posts or not. Some threads are activated even if I read them already and nobody else posted and some aren't, although I never read them since I logged in.
Also don't like that when I log in on the forum page, it takes me to another page where I have to login again (but I can live with that).
And don't like that the "home" isn't clearer.

I think that's about it.

Toby said that the two sites aren't supposed to look like they're part of two different projects.

There are many members who come here just for the forums. That of course doesn't mean that www.flirtbox.co.uk isn't the main site, but I think they still are two different things and this new thing is like trying to merge them into one which isn't so clear. In time the forums managed to stand up on their own and made people come here even if they don't check the main dating site anymore. I think the band at the top of the page should be the only thing which states the sites are together. Otherwise it's like having a gym and a kitchen in the same room. At least that's how I see it, but then again that was just an opinion and I might be wrong...

I don't know if I made a point and I surely didn't say it all with any bad intention (and we were asked to say what we think to be right and wrong about the new look). I love these forums and I'd like to stick around.

I think it might need a scroll bar on the bottom for large images, long url's etc

I have major trouble when I post my text box has shifted so far right I get the boxes on my right over lapping the text.
This squahses down what I write and it makes it look like I am writing in verse Sad

Check out the page in IE, James. You'll see it all there and it won't look like verse. Very Happy

For a person with any visual impairment/difficulties, the new design and color scheme is terrible.

The alternating font sizing means that changing the whole sizing display on my monitor makes things worse - makes the small writing bigger yes, but then the big writing is too big.

As for the color scheme, in all honesty I have to say that I am finding it too much like hard work and stressful trying to cope with - I am probably going to have to leave as its not something I will 'get used to' - eyes are eyes after all - and i come on here to have a bit of fun and relax, not struggle to see, makes my eyes tired and brain frazzled.

No offence Toby, but your new design is actually rather nice with the creams and browns, BUT it is very very (sight) disabled/challenged Unfriendly.

In firefox?

Is it because you have the text to large? Will going to view > Text size > Decrease make it any better? Decrease the text size a few times?

I know its basic, but I'm just wondering Smile , mine is good in both ie and firefox so maybe it is something to do with your browser.

Tried that it didn't seem to do anything, but it seems to be okay in IE which is annoying because I hate IE.

I would download Oprea (my fav browser) but until I get my comp back I don't want to download much to this computer as it isn't mine.

...it's okay for the meantime however I'll just use IE,but thanks anyhow Jag Wink
