Home >> Anything else >> overvalued house prices in the uk
25.09.2006, 17:30 quote
i already started a similiar thread.....anyway just want to make people aware that house prices in the UK are far too overvalued and that people should start building themselves instead of buying old, run-down and dilapidated houses for ridiculous sums of money.....dont waste your money....avoid agents and expensive building companies too.
Just as an example:
= 43.595 GBP
Let's add 30% for the land = 56647 GBP
Okay, what do you get for that?
Let's check rightmove....
a one bedroom "chalet"
how much would be something similiar - a house with 7 rooms ?
really hard to find any houses with more then 5 or 6 rooms on rightmove...
well here is one for 250,000 pounds.
but honestly, which one would you choose?
maybe i am just stupid, but why would anyone want to buy a house in the UK with less then 6/7 rooms for more then 150,000 pounds if you could always knock it down and build a new one for another additional 65,000 -80,000 pounds?
in my theory every who buys a house would be better off to knock it down..even if it is a newly built house.....because most of them look ugly and have usually only 4-5 rooms...

Stop depressing me! |
well...it is depressing me too.....
what if everyone just stopped buying houses like that?
if nobody buys them...and people cant sell them anymore the value will decrease until they reach their real value of something near 10,000 pounds.
In England there is 377 people living on 1 km² - so not that many...so that can not be the reaon...some people always say that land is precious in the UK as there are so many people living there....I dont think so....
A smiliar region in Germany, such as Baden-Württemberg has 300 people per km² . Nordrhein-Westphalen in Germany has 529 people per 1 km² - and houses/land in Nordrhein-Westphalen is a lot less although it is populared more.

I like it here though toby
.. but it makes you sick the prices of propertys abroad
25.09.2006, 18:27 quote
There is no real reason for the house prices in the UK though...it is a "bubble" - property in the UK does not reflect their real value.

It's not just the price of the house you're paying for though. You're paying for the area.
There are houses in my town that are massive, selling for £500,000. In London, they'll go for 3.4 million.
Personally, I think our house prices are already too high - but only by about 25%. I'm about to make the leap onto the property ladder and i'm not doing it alone.
