My member is always hidden Well, when I'm dressed, anyway.

I run a few forums and find that usually the people who are 'hidden' without an ulterior motive are either Admin or Mods, but usually Admin. I 'hide' on the forums that I admin so I can move about and do database work, clear out the spammers, whatever, without being interrupted by loads of PM's from other members when they see I'm online.

My more general theories about hidden members on forums attached to dating sites includes the premise that someone has either pee'd someone else off, or let them down, and doesn't want that person to know that they are online at the same time that they are. The other theory is that they have already dated (or still are) someone else using the forum or site, but still playing the field on the site, and doesn't want the other person to know that they are still using the site and forum (they probably mutually agreed not to). Cynical? Nope, I just spend enough time on my own forums to know what people get up to

Even if you are not dating or (virtually) two-timing someone, it is a matter of privacy. I haven't hid on here but on myspace I always have the 'online now' thing turned off. The same goes with MSN messenger. Otherwise I get less work done than normal..
