Don't think that setting makes a difference, I was talking to a couple of girls (don't worry, the world has not gone topsy-turvey, just chatting) and had no problem getting their messages.

And good hunting supercarry!

If you've got the setting checked that you can only receive messages from men, then of course it makes a difference...you can only send messages to people who have nominated your gender as one that they want to receive messages from. I think we've probably all made the mistake of accidentally messaging a lesbian before we're told they only receive messages from female members.

swiss rebel, I don't want to receive a message saying, "No, I don't want to get to know you or chat to you because you look like an ugly twat and your profile suggests you've got a dull personality". But I'd actually like someone every now and again to reply, "thanks for the message but I won't be pursuing any further contact with you because you made some cardinal errors in your approach message and on your profile, here's a detailed report on where you can improve..."

Hello newbies and everyone else who (like me) never got a welcome because they just jumped right in!

I didn't really introduce myself, but was given a warm welcome anyway! As for people who don't reply to messaages. I personally think that's quite rude. I'd always endeavour ro reply to messages - if I ever got any! It doesn't take much to write a few lines.
