| And since i was the mod to say put the nameup, I will stand by it. God himself has asked that potential scammers are reported in that forum if people so wish in the past which I'm sure you will all find if you look hard enough. |
You’re quite right, of course, but I still urge people to use common sense and diplomacy when posting *potential* scammers user names publicly.
This isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, just a general life-observation, in the hope that someone reading this in the future might find it useful. Hopefully some people will see this as sound advice.
Whilst some people may be naïve enough to actually *be* scammed by the unscrupulous , others are naïve in other ways (i.e. perhaps not very worldly), and in their naivety might be a little too quick to shout “scammer!” when a situation presents itself to them. Without putting too much thought into it at this time of the morning, I can think of 2 people I know personally who use dating sites who have labelled someone a scammer when the subject of money came up. In fact they weren’t scammers at all.
[[ In both cases the scenario was almost identical. 2 people had got to know each other through a dating site, emailed each other, talked on the phone, etc. After some time had passed the woman asked to meet the man (on a specific date, to suit her busy time table). The man indicated that he didn’t have the financial resources to meet her (reasons unknown), but if she lent him the money for the petrol costs etc he would be happy to fit in with her schedule and meet her. Within an hour of that she had posted his details on a scammers web site (this was a web site dedicated to exposing dating site scammers, with links to their profile on whichever site they were registered with). ]]
It may very well be that the person that Dowen mentioned is a scammer, but on the other hand he may not be. Who knows, we didn't hear both sides of the story. Posting a possible scammers user name is a 2 edged sword – if the person is a scammer then others have been fore-warned; if they are not a scammer then they have been ‘trialled without jury’ and their reputation on a dating site is tarnished.
I hope someone finds this of use.

Asking a woman to lend you money to go on a date might not be scamming, but it does show an outrageous lack of class. I would rather just tell her I couldn't do it on that date and arrange another time.

Of course it shows ourageous lack of class! But it takes all sorts to make the world go round, eh?
/* off-topic, sort of, but not only are there web sites dedicated to reporting dating scammers, but there are also web sites deicated to 'reporting' awful dates - lack of class being one of the reasons people have cited there, some of the reasons being 'picking nose', 'farting', 'burping'
) */

Have to say Moose, I completely agree with all you say there.
DH, I do see your point believe me but anybody asking for money would set alarm bells ringing in my mind unless I knew them really really really well.....Having said that, I think im quite good at spotting the spammer/scammers who message me anyway
