Home >> Anything else >> Not sure if this belongs on here but sad news, Steve Irwin
04.09.2006, 11:15 quote
Ladies and Gents,
That nutty Aussie that I'm sure most of us laughed at and watched in a kinda disbelief at his antics with snakes and croc's...has died!!!
Killed by a stingray of all things while filming a docu' on Queenslands Great Barrier Reef was struck in the chest by the stingray's barb in "a freak accident".
Despite efforts by paramedic's, they were not able to save him...
Farewell Steve, we shall miss ya!!!

Not being nasty here, but if you mess with wild animals then one should expect the worse.
They are to unpredictable.
04.09.2006, 11:26 quote
My mum just told me before I came online.
Sounds about right, though.
I was expecting him to be killed by a croc.
04.09.2006, 11:33 quote
Indeed it is sad news, and as much as he appeared to be a complete fruitcake he really did know what he was doing and truly loved and cared about the animals with which he worked.
RIP Steve, we'll miss ya!

Oh yeah I agree, well kind of...I mean Steve Irwin did this for education purposes. He was heavily into conservation and went about this by educating us on the planets wildlife and making us aware of their environment.
If this was some prat on a surf board, riding the waves in the middle of a seal colony that got devoured by a great white I'd be laughing my ass of cos he would have deserved it.
Mr. Irwin however knew the dangers and risked his life (and in the end paid with it) to bring us a better understanding of these creatures.

I made comments about what a wally he was in an OU forum this morning. (What a surprise!
) and got slated. So i did a bit of homework (good old google) and found out quite a lot about him. He's done loads of work with crocs for their benefit. many of the crocs he tussled with on tv were taken to preservation areas where they were nursed to health and given a better chance of survival. it seems he also did a fair bit of work with gorillas in their natural habitats too. he's done a great deal of work with many animals behind the scenes.
He also leaves behind a wife and 8 year old daughter.
I was wrong about Steve Irvine. If I wore one, i'd take my hat off to him.

it REALLY was a freak accident. stingrays dont actually attack people, their stinger is a self protect reflex......and to be stung in the chest....well thats just unbelievably unlucky.
i thought he was a nutcase.....but thats why i thought he was great. his entheusiasm made him great to watch. there'll never be another steve irwin thats for sure
04.09.2006, 16:30 quote
Oddly enough, he was related to "Dame Edna".
But yes, it's been said - this was most definitely a freak accident, he wasn't prodding the stingray with a stick to provoke it - it was just unlucky.
As much as everyone slated him for being so "out there" he lived his life like many of us should - like every day is your last

For those of you who don't know him by his name (the ones outside of the uk):
You have probably seen this face on tv before ....
