I'm just in the process of aquiring a pet African grey parrot.

Any Ideas what I should name it?

To help you along she's a girl, and can't be called Daisy because my cousin just named his baby that!

The winning entrant will win a pathetic prize Very Happy

I would also like to offer a prize...for the winner of the "Best Cockatoo Joke" competition.

All entrants welcome

I was brought up with 2 african greys, genders unknown. Their names were Peebo and Bingo.
My auntie had one called Baba, and a friend had one called Hector.

I've always thought the name Sinbad was very funny, but its a female so what about something a bit more up market like Patricia?

African Grey Parrots are well known in scientific circles as the most intelligent of all birds, and are very long-lived. Maybe, bearing that in mind, 'Methuselah' would be a good name.

Also, just fyi....see video on Alex the african grey, who died at the age of 31 after being a long-term subject of a study into avian cognitive abilities.

(You'll need to scroll down to the section headed "entertaining parrots" then click on the 'play video' button directly under the picture of the parrot. Your PC will prompt you to select the best streaming quality for your system)

Thanks for that! Ive been looking at a few bits and bobs on Alex. That was one clever bird! As for the name 'Methuselah' I'm don't think so because it would spend the first ten years of its life just trying to learn its name!

Thanks to everyone else as well. I think I'll end up going for a two-syllable name

How about "Metis".

Metis being a Greek Goddess - this is taken from reference.com

By the era of Greek philosophy Metis had become the goddess of wisdom and deep thought, but her name originally connoted "magical cunning"
