Got invited to myspace by someone, found it useful for sharing photos, but too many scammers for my liking. Maybe it's my age lol
Ended up using flickr for photo sharing instead which I have found to be great.

My real friends are always worth a phone call!

I don't have a myspace but I am a facebook addict, which is huge here in the states for high school and college students. Its great because all of my close friends are on there and I can easily keep in touch with them

I've not used facebook much, but it's making a few waves with geeks due to them opening themselves up to let them make all sorts of funky things. What they offer seems to be better designed than myspace ,too, which I consider to be a crock of shite that's lucky enough to just about work. I've got an account with them, but never really use it. I'll probably check out what geeky customisations and stuff can be done at some point, though.

Yeah, they have added all of these new applications which are really neat and I could see how it would be big with geeks, lol. My favorite one is that you can add a song to your profile now, which was the one thing I like about myspace.

we turn a blind eye to myspace, as many have it in their sigs and it doesnt do anything to affect this site

I'd sooner use FaceBook than MySpace. FaceBook gives you a bit of customisation but doesn't let you turn your page into some fucking dayglo clipart monstrosity with streaming music to cut yourself to. It's also missing the popularity contest element that MySpace seems to do so well.

The one main advantage of FaceBook is that it's consensual social networking, whereas MySpace is basically social Pokemon. The whole idea of MySpace is all about collecting as many 'friends' as possible, rather than keeping in touch with people you're interested in or care about. Having said that, this is a problem with social networking sites in general; it's all very superficial and more about how many visitors/friends you have than it is about any genuine interaction with people.

The only site I've seen so far that is different in this regard is I'mInLikeWithYou. It's primarily a dating site, and it's predominantly aimed at the US (but the UK/Euro contingent is growing), but it also works as a social networking site. Rather than just message people at random, you have to earn the right by bidding on games the person you wish to talk to has set up (you're allocated points when you sign up, and earn more through uploading photos, visiting the site, answering Yes/No questions, games you run yourself etc). The games can be nonsense shit like 'If you were a pirate what would your name be?' or actual preludes to dates such as 'Winner takes me out for a Chinese', and you get to choose the winner from the 5 highest bidders (if you see someone you like in your list of bidders you can send them a wink to encourage them to bid more). This might sound a little artificial and forced, and it is, unashamedly so, but it actually works and it becomes very addictive. The other thing it has in it's favour is that you really have to sell yourself to get anywhere, something which is sadly missing from here (a fuzzy webcam picture and a list of authors/groups anyone?). As a result the people are pretty eclectic, funny and interesting (that's why they win). The few people I've met from the UK have been ace. It's basically social eBay. You've got to work your brain and booty to yield results.

MySpace is just a narcissist's wet dream and a way of boosting self-confidence by gathering a huge collection of virtual friends who's only common interest is filling a contact list. All in the most garish and retina-burning way as is humanly possible.

I like that idea, it sounds interesting. I'm checking it out.

i must have completely missed the point of myspace cos i dont accept add requests from people who i dont have anything in common with or if they look like they are just purely friend collectors. as with everything in life, i feel myspace is what you make it, to an extent. i have made some interesting friends on myspace as well.

there you go, i expressed an opinion without resorting to sarcasm, belittling other peoples opinion or forcing my own opinion in such a way to make mine look better.

i am quite happy for anyone on flirtbox to add my new myspace profile to theirs as we are already friends here anyway Very Happy

Myspace has been fantastic for me for finding fantastic music new and not so new. Keeping tabs on what music I can see locally and where I can catch fave bands. I also have friends on there i've met through various bands forums, and old mates.

I'd be happy for people on here to add me to if you felt the need. Smile
